Dear Imallclear, Sorry to hear you are struggling. Hugs to you. I read that the opposite of depression is anger. And its better to get mad than depressed and also normal. I think its good to allow yourself to feel mad. After all, you are going through this hell. Who knew when we started this what a hold it got on us. It's not like you decided to do heroine. We all got tricked. Its not just the cravings, but the constipation and the weight gain. Its a nightmare. Who would not be mad but remember, it's not your fault. You did nothing wrong and deserve a good life. Depression lifts. Even if you decided to stay depressed forever, you could not do it. It passes. I jog. It helps. I run along the river and curse the cigarette companies to get it out. But I find myself in the same situation as you in spite of it. I get depressed too. So dont get down on yourself no matter what. Imaclear, On the 1st day of my quit, someone recommended that I see my doc and get a perscription or depression just in case. So I made an appointment, went in, told my doctor I was quitting and put him on notice that if I needed something to help with depression, that he would be willing to call it in for me. So far, I haven't needed it, but I know it's there if I do. Your doing great and your almost through heck week. Hang in there!!! Kait. Thanks for all your responses. I have read all the "I'm scared" about quitting. I don't know. I'm to the age that every day feels like a mud slid as to what defines my circumstances and what type of person I am able to actualize vs. what I feel I am. I believe it's a mid-life crisis. At the beginning of my 11 year quit I was optimistic about my future and my place in it. Gradually I became angry and aloof. Towards the end there I took on again my rebel self and hung a cigarette out of my mouth (so long as my kids weren't looking). It's nuts. Never is a day the same. My sense of time and my place in it is equalilent (sp?) to the Time Zone. Sorry for the rant. Feeling better now. Stiff upper lip, you know. I know one truth in my life - I'm not smoking, thanks to your support. I'm feeling depressed and withdrawn. Earlier this week I thought my crabiness time was gonna happen. But I figure that if I crab out loud that then I'll have to deal with the issues and I'd rather not do that w/o my tobacco crutch right now. Feeling too vulnerable to stand up for myself. I've got my head in the sand, but at least I'm not smoking. I'm hoping that if I just tuck in then this too will pass. :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 117 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 59 Seconds: 6

imallclear, I felt exactly the same way as you do at the 11th day mark of my quit. I know that me saying it will all pass sounds so cliche.. but it will. And hon if it continues or gets worse maybe you should talk to your doctor. But in the meantime you know we're all here for you .. so if you need to vent or yell out (in words).. there will always be people to 'listen' :) Take good care, be strong and make sure you get good sleeps at night -- it really does help to regenerate the body and the mind. Hey imallclear!! YOu are through with hell week and almost through with heck week! Congrats!. I also had the blues around that time. It was tough but now I see it was all worth the moodiness (anger, sad, happy, blue, etc). Keep your head up high and reward yourself. I loved planning what my next huge reward would be. For two weeks coming up plan something nice that you have wanted to do for a while but haven't. imallclear - Hold on tight, dear one... Allow the journey to be what it is each moment, each day, each mood... And celebrate YOU... I know where you are - and I know that our moods can change moment to moment... Staying in bed, and pulling the covers over my head was one of my coping skills... do what works for you, friend... I think it's ok to just hide under the covers for a few days. Recognize you have these feelings and then let them go. Don't dwell on them, don't judge them. They are just thoughts. Practice breathing - just concentrate on that - it's very hard to carry on any conversations in your head then. You will get through this. You are one step closer to never having to feel this way again. If you want - IM me - anytime.
