Pete, I've been doing the 21 mg patch also, I'll step down when this supply is runs out in a week. I take the patch off before I go to bed at night, I figured I dont smoke when I sleep. (plus I couldnt sleep with it on). In the morning I cant put patch on till after my wake up shower, which is after my wake up coffee (at least an hour after waking up). It has not been that big a deal. I think your coping skills you have learned and gotten you through hell and heck week will keep you from having a "weak moment". But if or when you go screaming like a banshee to the local store just make sure you pass up the smoke aisle. Wait, come to think of it I got my patch @ walmart, they sell the patch WITH the cigs. I think you'll be fine Pete, whatever you do. Remember Pete you are paving the way, monkey see..monkey doo..eeww...eeww...aaawww...aawww (monkey sounds) lol. no pressure. Have a good monday. Lemme know what you came up with--Kevin-- My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 118 Amount Saved: $23 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 20 Mins: 7 Seconds: 13

Peteg, Can you cut the 21mg patch in half if you can't find the 14mg ones? Better than nothing or maybe try the gum until you can find the right patch. Good luck! Yes you will be fine. Quiting smoking won't kill you (no matter how bad the withdrawal is) but smoking will. Stardust

Peteg, my question is why were you stepping down to the 14 mg after only 13 days of quitting??? You're spose to be on the 21 mg patch for 6 weeks before downgrading to the 14 mg. I smoked for 31 years. Quit on Oct 4th, 2006 and after six weeks downgraded to 14mg. It's tough at that point. I still have a hard time but not once have I cheated. I paid less then $50 but I have to say that if you TRULY wanted to quit that price would not have mattered. Considering what you probably spent on smokes per month it was a small amount to pay. You can't think you're ready to suck up and deal.. you have to believe that you are.And to ask what is the worst that can happen. I highly suggest you ask yourself that question.. "Do I really want to quit"?? Until you are with all your heart.. and be willing to do whatever it takes.. you won't... I wish you the best of luck. I've was using 24 hour patches but I put them on late morning or whenever I started to feel like I needed it, and I took them off around 10pm. I figure I don't need nicotine when I sleep. Then I reused the same patch the next day. It is not as sticky but it worked just as well the second day and it is obviously half as expensive. On the second day I tried to put the patch under something tight, like a bra strap, so it couldn't move around. I ended up stoping the patch when I ran into the same problem you had - my grocery store was out of the store's brand of the 7mg patches and I was too cheap to buy name brand ones. So I got the 2 mg lozenges instead and am very happy with them. I like that I am not getting nicotine constantly. The lozenges are sort of big, so I bite off about a third of one and put it under my tongue and forget about it. I can talk, drink (although you're not supposed to) and no one can tell it's there and I don't have a wad of gum burning my mouth and looking like I'm using chewing tobacco. It's especially nice for me because I can have instant gratification after dinner or in bars when the cravings hit the hardest.

Good luck. I never used the patch, so I can't really give you advice. I am guessing a few days of withdraw. Hi Pete - I used the 21 mgs for 5 weeks (6 weeks were recommended), stepped down to 14 mgs for 2 weeks and am now on 7 mgs. I think basically, you need to be prepared to go through some withdrawal by stopping your patched cold turkey. The good news....physical nicotine withdrawal is only supposed to last for 72 hours and you have one day down. If you are able to get through those hours, you should be home-free. I think you attitude and commitment are very positive....so you are already on the right track. However, don't EVER give up your quit to save afew bucks....If you feel that you are going to cave....go to the store, spend that money and slap on that patch! Good luck! Well, you have saved some money for not buying cigarettes, and you could use it to buy the patch, to protect your quit, with a healthier living! :) In my case, I quit with the aid of NRT inhaler and NRT lozenges ... They're not cheap! However, although I'm not wealthy, I'm not too concerned on the cost of those NRT aids. My main concern at the time being is how to stay quit! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 79 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 799 Amount Saved: $395 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 20 Mins: 19 Seconds: 22
