Sparklestorm -- That's a great name; I can't imagine what it means. I wonder if I might offer my two cents worth: as long as anyone or anything else besides you (in all of your sparkly storminess?) is at the center of your quit, it won't be your quit; it will be someone else's. It won't work that way. It has to be your quit on your terms. Nothing else will work, I'm afraid. When the time is right, you'll find your own path and travel at your own rate. When it's YOU you'll be letting down, you'll know it's time. For once it really is all about you! More power to ya to go cold turkey, I have said it here before I am envious of those who can do it cold turkey. Myself, I am taking advantage of the patch, and a mood enhancing prescription. If there is something else I can take to help, I'd be on it! lol. However, all the help aids in the world wont help without the true desire to quit. In addition, you must take advantage of the tools that can be learned to the left. Good luck with your quit and keep us posted. your support network is already started here. For me, I think it is easier going cold turkey. Get it out of the way as fast as possible. I've never been a person to do things moderately which is why I don't think I could make the gum work for me. TO each his own, though. Good luck. Hi Sparkle - I agree with Lynne, no matter how much you love your fiance, you need to make this quit your own. It's not possible to quit until your desire to quit is stronger than your desire to smoke. Lots of people prefer to go cold turkey because it gets the nicotine out of your system more quickly and many have been successful. However, if you are feeling like you just can't stand it, I would suggest talking to your Doctor or Pharmacist about alternatives. I used the patch which helped alot. I've also heard alot of good things about the new medication called Chantix. Whatever works for you, do it. Take a look at the tools on this page. You will learn a whole new set of skills to help you along the way. Skill #1 - Distraction (walks, naps, gum, sugar-free candies, straws, cinnamon sticks, posting on scc, green tea - again, whatever works for you) Read some of the older posts and check out the hall of fame. Post often. There are lots of great members here ready to support you every step of the way. Sparklestorm, make sure you prepare for your quit. I'm using the patches. I couldn't entertain the thought of cold turkey right now. Whatever helps you, go for it! Sparklestorm, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to quit! Start working through our program, it is located on the left side of your screen. It is full of advice and will help you get a plan together to make this quit successful. Our forums are also full of advice on how to tackle cravings. Start looking at your daily routines. When do you smoke? why? where? What replacements or distractions do you have in place to substitute those cigarettes? How will you reward yourself for staying smoke free. As for the cigarettes in the freezer, many have found it helpful to rid their house of all cigarettes and smoking paraphernalia. It helps to remove the temptation. Keep persevering, Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Hello sparklestorm - If you are committing to Quitting, throw the smokes out... There is NO emergency in Quitting - Quitting is just that, friend - not smoking... If your desire to smoke is stronger than your desire to Quit, you won't stay Quit - it's not possible. So... my friend - when you are ready to (((really))) make the commitment to Quit, you will walk in there, get that pack, drench it in the sink, and throw it out...
