Epitaph

Before you lies young Katie Cray,

Addicted to three packs a day;

Took up the habit when only ten,

Now she'll never smoke again.

Wow, you guys are going to make me cry. Thanks for sharing your heartfelt words. Sad as some of them are, they are important reminders of how we can make choices that can affect others (and ulitmately ourselves) in negative ways.

Appreciate the thoughts. As you know we are not a big country so every one has been touched by the earthquake in Christchurch, as we all know someone there.  Must keep the faith mon ami....

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for the quote - very apt.

Sorry to hear about last week's earthquake and the ensuing casualties. Our thoughts are with you and your compatriots.

Not a poem, but a quote;
"A custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black, stinking fume thereof nearest resembling the horrible Stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless."  ~James I of England, A Counterblaste to Tobacco, 1604

Sums it up quite nicely I thought....

Baseball's Sad Lexicon

These are the saddest of possible words:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance"
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double,
Words that are weighty with nothing but trouble:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance".

---- Franklin P Adams    July 10, 1910

Haiku 1

Smell of stale smoke

Brushed away by new broom

Water freshens life.

Tomorrow

"Tomorrow", my last word to you,

"Righto", you said to me,

I smiled and walked away that night,

Not knowing what would be.

Tomorrow never comes they say,

I wish it had been never,

Despite tomorrow coming,

You'll live with me for ever.

Our tomorrow's been and gone,

With sadness some might say,

Our tomorrow will come once more,

We'll meet again that day.

With each passing hour

I move closer to you.

There is no sorrow,

Just tomorrow.

Having suffered with emphysema, Dad passed away in the early hours of 29th July 1997 in a hospital bed, alone. I wrote this poem later that day.

He was a smoker.

Duffis!  I thought Feb 13 was you last post!  Was so sad to think that you weren't going to add any more of your wise words to 'just a thought'!  Pen does great at finding/writing pertinent quotes to keep the thread going.  I really love how you guys are able to express yourselves in a meaningful way  - effortlessly in what seems like 'one word or less'! I hope you found most of the Unsmokables to share your quit date with after all!  I'm new here in January - have read many posts.  These words have kept me (somewhat) sane through my CT quit. Thank you. Eya
