Wazz, I am concerned with your comments that quitting is so hard. You are not wrong when you say it is will power, to the extent that your will to quit, has to be stronger than your will to smoke, it is very much will power. In the meantime, to get past the twelve day glitch, you need to plan ahead big time. Set aside some tasks to do that day to keep yourself busy, keep your pockets full of candy or gum or straws or whatever hand to mouth tool works for you. You are an addict! Start treating yourself like an addict, get it through your brain that you can't have another cigarette - ever! It wasn't until I realized that, that it dawned on me I cannot touch another one, thats how much I was addicted. We are all addicted because that's what the tobacco companies have done, they added enough drugs to make us all addicted, quickly and effectively. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 317 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,925 Amount Saved: $3,344.35 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 15 Mins: 55 Seconds: 22

Cheers Moss for the kind words. Wazz I agree with kiwi on Allen Carr's book - it didn't get me to quit right away, more like festered for about a year but it had something to do with it. Best of luck to you tho, it's a bear but keep the faith and the golden ring is yours. x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 380 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,740 Amount Saved: 2,090.00 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 9 Mins: 24 Seconds: 37

Waz, i done the cold turkey thing & has worked a treat for me .. don't let it get you down... I attribute my current success to CT & Allan carr's book of course. I would say good luck dude, but luck has nothin to do with it. Hey Wazz, Todash,s post really struck me as something to consider. I have read a lot of her posts and she has some great insight and a way of getting to the truth of the matter. ( for me anyway ) Thanks Todash!! You were here when I first joined this wacky crew a few months ago. Glad you are back. I was, and was also around a lot of hard core smokers. We all tried cold turkey a few times and not a one of us ever made it past a week or two. Then one used an aid and made it, and then another, and then one more, and then I did. There have been some really big beautiful hills and some very low mucky valleys, but the valleys have been a bit more manageable emotionally. I know this is a hugely personal choice and I respect you for it. Just throwing out a bit of food for thought. Good Luck to you Wazz !! Good to see you back, Wazz, get back on the horse and all that... Do me a favour, and have another read of what you said!
I never make it past 12 days, dont know why just yet but I am exploring that.

BTW I am doing this cold turkey again.
Never is a mighty long time. Glad you're exploring why you've fallen at the day 12 hurdle, but methinks you'd stand a better chance if you took a more optimistic viewpoint. Me, I like "I have yet to make it past twelve days but I'll be damned if I don't make it this time!" Maybe quote 2 is having something to do with quote 1? Stick close. Reward yourself. Post often. Reward yourself. Read, read, read. Reward yourself. And reward yourself...DON'T SMOKE! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 379 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,717 Amount Saved: 2,084.50 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 7 Mins: 33 Seconds: 1

Hey Wazz! Glad you are back and now working on Day 4. Yup, rewards are important and they don't have to be a huge thing but something that feels like a reward to you. A new guitar pick or a new strap? Rent a movie or go to one in the middle of the day, something you wouldn't have done as a smoker. I'm not a big believer in will power because I think once it dips we get freaked out and feel guilty for not being stronger. I think it is a matter of commitment - no matter how you feel, no matter what is going on around you, no matter what you hold firm to the commitment you made to quit. Do whatever it takes to get through Day 12. Lock yourself in a room, sleep through it, have a friend or loved one watch your every move. Plan a HUGE reward for the end of it if you have to but you can do it! We are rooting for you =) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1258 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,160 Amount Saved: $5,661.00 Life Gained: Days: 98 Hrs: 1 Mins: 43 Seconds: 17

Wazz! It's nice to see you back! Just to give you a little motivation... By the time you're watching the Pats win the Superbowl this year (hehehehehe, I know... let's not jinx it but still... it may happen!) you will be past your 12 day hump, you'll be 3 weeks into your quit, almost a month! So just look forward to having a couple of beers with that game without even thinking about cigs :) I know you can do it! Stay strong buddy! Wazz, Everyone on this site has tried to quit more that once.. Good decision to keep quitting. Allen Carr has a great book that helped me understand this addiction. Welcome back Wazz and good luck with your renewed effort. I agree, in addition to willpower, you need strength, desire and determination. Armed with that knowledge, you are now better placed to make this quit stick! Best Wishes, Penitent d1336 :)

good for you Wazz, If i can quit, YOU can quit. Everyone here on this site will tell you the same..33 year, pack and a half a day girl here...there are 50 year smokers on this site that have quit. And you have figured it out. It is not easy; but it is worth the cravings, depression, tiredness, weight gain, emotions, and whatever else we go through to get to freedom from nicotine. Come to the site and read and post before you ever decide to smoke. And remember, smoking is a choice. You have to put the fag in your mouth and light it yourself in order to relapse. You will enjoy life smoke free...just hang in. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 232 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,568 Amount Saved: $1,160.00 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 10 Mins: 50 Seconds: 40
