Here's my take on it, bear
an addict is someone who most likely has a vulnerability to it because of a genetic imbalance in the old brain pathways. Given that genetic heritage, there is most likely some nuttiness in the growing up phases, and a lack of development of more productive coping strategies, so that when the going gets tough, the addiction gets growing. Unhooked would say I am a bit too cerebral at times, but you asked the question, and that is my best educated theory
