Joyful, You are not allowed to smoke! Get that hanging by a thread thought out of your head. Yes, I'm here fussing at you. I'm having one of those emotional, depressed, anxiety days today and even considered for a moment the thought of smoking myself. Haven't done that in ages! These crazy emotions always get in the way and they suck big time. Breathe right on through it and go on with life. Life as a non-smoker is so much better than life as a smoker. Besides, smoking never fixes anything! Hi bear :) Gr8 topic! For me smoking also made it easier to deal with my emotions. All kinds of emotions...lonliess, bordem, depression & anxiety. I have fibromyalgia and ptsd (from desert storm) so I deal with depression and anxiety on a daily basis, plus just the normal and not so normal lol stresses of daily life. Infact right at this moment I'd love to escape with a smoke. But today, again, my desire to be a non-smoker is more than my desire to smoke. It's tough and I think I'm hanging by a thread these days, but I'm doing it :) Just breathe....... Smoking does have a habit of masking problems or issues that were already existing. When you quit, they come back full force and show their true colours :) Josie, Support Specialist

Iam not sure if it was a mask, but i do know when i quit somoking everone found out that i had a Temper, use to when i felt mad i would grab my smokes and go outside and there i would get through my mad spell, without the smokes i stayed in the house and let it all out, i guess that would be masked, folks tell me i was a nicer person when i smoked, i say iam the same person, i just stay in the house all the time now so they see all of me LOL i like me alot better :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1818 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 36,360 Amount Saved: $6,363.00 Life Gained: Days: 256 Hrs: 8 Mins: 11 Seconds: 15

Bear, For me, smoking masked a blood pressure/heart ailment. While smoking, my bp was always around 140/90, borderline high. When I quit, my bp jumped to over 200/100 and I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. With the help of 3 new meds, my bp is back under control. I was told by the doctor that the cigs were what was keeping my bp lower. Who knew?
