roy in mtl,

one of the symptomes of Depression is that we focus on the negative.

Montreal has English services and is very English friendly, that is why there are so many ad campaignas to try to get it less so ... and so many fruitless efforts to get new immigrants to become french.  L'office de la langue Francaise is ready to rip Montreal off the map , sometimes, and pitch it out into the atlantic.

The Royal Victoria and Jewish General and the Douglas Psychiatric Hospitals have excellent English care.  St-Luc often offers bilingual services. And many other places might surprise you like the Mtl Chinese Hospital that serves in several Chinese dialects and in English!

Where will you be in 6 months? well if you are not better at least you will be one step closer to serious help!  If you are better then you are in for a check-up and a foot in the door !  to be sure the stresses and pains of life do not tackle you again.

Roy, There are no magic solutions.  i am sorry.  All the treatments for our illness require time and healing.  You need to see a general doctor at the clinic now.  You need to get started on the exercises that will start you looking at the pain that put you in this state.  You need to Heal.

Hey,

I am in a region like you are where all public service help take forever! But it is worth it! Give it a try. What is the worse that will happen, they will offer you help later and you won'T need it? But hey, if you still do need it well it will be there! Worth a shot.

But I think you got great advice from Wildcat so I won't repeat! You also got great advice from Faryal. Why not do the program? It might help and then you won't even need their help when they get to you! I am not very far into the program but up to now it is very good :)

Hi Royallyscrewed,

Your frustration is understandable.

It sounds like your state of mind is further amplified by your environment. Please do believe that it will get better. Are you involved in any social activities?

Also, have you started working through this program? You may find that while you are waiting for professional assistance, the sessions will help you to conquer some or most of what you are going through.

Keep us posted and hope this coming week is more positive for you.

things are still the same. i really dont want to wait 6 months to see a doctor... at that point, i might as well just stick to toughing things out without the meds. ive been shovel'n this **** for this long without them... clearly i need help but can anyone say where they are gunna be in 6 months? :S

ok so maybe the example was a lil overkill but you get the idea. its not fun or easy being alone in a crowd and when your english in quebec... your alone in a crowd of 3 million lol

im still stressed outta my mind and depressed about how things are... keep telling myself things will get better but i just dont see it happening any time soon. i dont even talk to my family about this junk cuz they either wouldnt understand, would blame me for it all or would overdo things and harrass me with phone calls and messages all day till i lost my mind altogether....

hi royinmtl,

This is only info... this is not a critique or a judgement or ANYTHING negative... I live in Mtl.  and have had my share of the frustrations and problems in La Belle Province.  So I am only giving the gang a quick outline of the Qc Healthcare Line-up.
I promise, really, i promise...

the way our Qc Medicare system is set up ... you have to see the Md; your regular doctor or one in a walk-in clinic. For the initial presciption and follow-up. This doctor will refer you to the proper specialist if they feel you need one!!!! and if you have not seen someone in the field before and if you currently are not a patient (last saw the person 3 years ago or less).  If you can pay!!! then you have the choice to see whatever specialist in psychiatry and psychology has a private office (and most work on a sliding scale).  In the Medicare system the Psychiatrists work out of the hospitals and outpatient clinics of the hopitals - there are 6 month waiting lines SO GET IN LINE NOW!!!!  The phychologists work in the same milieu and can be found in the local health clinics CLSC another line up ....  SO GET IN LINE NOW!!!  and ignore the receptionists... vacations r coming up... and we are full for now ... and and and.. I pay 23% of my salary on taxes I deserve to be put on the list!   now. please.

Now Jobs,  never a pretty picture in Qc, at least Montreal is still a tough cookie and refuses to be french!  look in at the CLE the local governement job seach office, the programmes they offer are really worth the time and the photocopies & faxes were cheep!  You probably already know this but go towards the companies that rely on the outside to survive. They have to communicte in English with offices in the rest of Canada and the US so they have to be English!!! regardless of the language laws.  Also, Look up the governement web sites... this summer I saw Canada Customs was desperate for people to freeze in a cabane at $50,000/yr asking "anything to declare" in two languages!

rs, you need a md - regular general practioner or internist or ideally a psychiatrist - those two can prescribe meds. md- medical doctor. psychologists are the ones who usually diagnose and nod their head and take notes and keep all the info to themselves so you keep coming back! sorry - that was negative - but that was my experience, after 9 months of talking, i had to really press her to put something down on paper and when she finally did - wow! i'm avoidant, dependent, passive-aggressive, depressed and anxious! i have conflicting feelings towards myself and others, i vacillate between being socially agreeable and aggressive/irritable. ok........so i'm working on it! but i know i'll always be me, don't know why i am the way i am- sure have my theories. i say bring on the meds! anything that can help you to deal is a good thing. ps - the black guy thing, it can't be that bad for you up there - they got lynched! they were getting lynched in the late 60's because i saw it first hand. mississippi - i was 10 - we were driving down a country road and saw 3 black men hanging from trees - sickening, i still remember exactly how they looked, what they were wearing.....life can be one cruel b*tch.

From my understanding, an psychiatrist is a doctor specialized in mental health and he can give you meds.

A psychologist is a protected title. Which means a psychologist has to join an order and meet their standards before being able to call himself that. A psychologist does therapy and can't prescribe medication.

A psychotherapist is not a psychologist.a psychologist can call himself psychotherapist but a psychotherapist cannot call himself psychologist.  As of now, I do not think the title psychotherapist is regulated. Well not in my country anyway. So anyone can call themselves that. Some are super good and have tons of great training and others are less good. So as with anything shopping needs to be done, and info needs to be gotten! But that is true of any help you get!Psychotherapists do therapy and cannot prescribe medication.

Anyway, I hope this helps you find what you are looking for!

i made one with one but found out that he was a psychotherapist not a psychologist. the difference being from my understanding is that one can gimme meds the other cant lol so i canceled the appointment. started looking for another job. sent out my cv but its not looking that great, never does here. its kinda like being a black guy in the south in the 50s... even if you can speak french, your not french and thats enough for most to skip your application.

anyway. some things are getting better, got some action the other night lol... but everything else seems to be slowly circling the drain. cant be bothered to buy groceries, fridge is looking empty but im not all that hungry. i eat cuz i have to not cuz i want to... guess thats not unheard of around here...
