Well, I did great.  I wasn't sure what to expect but I knew a bunch about what they wanted to know more about so I kind of prepared a presentation of sorts.  I took notes to refer to and gave them to the CEO.  I had a suspicion that they would offer me a job at the Corporate office re: the program they wanted to know about.   I prepared an answer in advance.

I provided them with the answers to the questions, offered to assist in facilitating the new program.  I declined the offer of the new position.  I do not want to supervise and I told them this.  I do not want to drive 45 minutes one way to work, I like the population (persons with substance dependency) I work with currently and did not want to work with persons with mental retardation (I did this for 12 years earlier in my career).  I do not want to work the odd hours that the job would require and I do not want that level of responsibility.  They ask me how strongly I felt about my reasons for not wanting the job and I told them to the extent I would be unemployed before I accepted the position.  (I was diplomatic, I think there is a way to say that diplomatically).

We need an emoticon that expresses patting one's self on the back.  Cause that's what I'm doing!!!!!

You can do this Goofy! I can't wait to hear about your success!

Ralph, thanks for sharing that with me.  It is definitely what I am going through.  Difficulty concentrating and preparing.  I guess in the overall scheme of things It really doesn't matter if I meet their expectations, but meet mine and that must be to do the best I can at that time.  I'm sure I will do that!  Also, thanks for the prayers....they are always welcome!

Diva, I think I can put that in context.  I think I can, I think I can.  I don't want to tell them no.  I'm just going to go and do the best I can and since I'm not taking the abilify the depression is still hanging around rather heavily but I'm not sick  (physically from taking it).  So I'll do no worse than any other day.   That didn't sound too good, but I think I'll go, get it over with and I've been doing my research today and preparing.  I'll be as ready as I can be and do the best that I can do and I am preparing not to review and review and critique and critique myself so that I don't focus on what I  did wrong, but focus on what I do right....I hope I can do that.  I think I can, I think I can.

thanks again.....I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey Goofy,

Well, I think you will do great talking to the big dogs. But if this is too much for you and you feel overwhelmed maybe you can address that issue with your superior? It is ok not to always be able to say yes. No is not a dirty word lol. One way or another, do what is best for you to take care of yourself. And remember, good is good enough!

Good luck goofy! If it helps at all, I had to go thru something similar right after one of my episodes and it ended up going much better than I expected. When you have been doing something for awhile and are good at it(which I know you are) it is there with you, even when you don't realize it. I did take alot of notes with me(just like you said you were planning on) and it was different in preparing. I had to take more breaks when studying otherwise my mind got lost and I started to get frustrated and worried. A couple of things were different, first after what i had been thru, I was just happy to be alive. So while I still wanted to do well, I was not so desperate to do so. Also as i was doing the presentation, I realized I really did know what I was doing and I am sure had an impact on it going so well. Anyways, GOOD LUCK, you will be in my prayers.

Diva, you are definitely right.  All I can do is my best and no one can ask for more.  They ask me to come to the corporate office to meet with the big dogs for me share information that I have regarding optional funding for the whole non-profit organization.  I'm honored but concerned this might not be a good time considering my current state.  I'm definitely trying to study up a bit to refresh my memory and will rely on notes.

I'll do my best and anticipate that I will do my best.....

Thanks again

Hiya Goofy,

You are welcome for the hug. you can get one anytime you need one hun!

As for the productivity thing... Well just do the best you can in the time you are alloted. Then. clear you mind of it and focus on getting better. You can only do so much as you can do and that is good enough! Good enough is good enough! Don'T be so hard on yourself. It is not realistic to think you will do the same amount of work in half the time! You won't and that is OK. Do what you can and then let go of the rest. Be kind and patient with yourself. And take time to take care of yourself. Good enough is good enough . And if the documentation suffers a little well it does, and that is ok too. Doing your best is all you can ask of yourself.

Anyway, I did not mean to lecture lol. If I did I am sorry. Take good care of yourself Goofy and keep us posted on how you are doing!

Howdy and thanks for the responses.

Cammy, I don't think we are lazy....I think it's a side effect of the depression that we experience.  I have not had a traumatic brain injury but have worked with people who have experience them and it often results in changes to personality.  This may be reflected in your lack of motivation, depression, etc.  I personally think that the lack of motivation is intrinsic in the dx of depression and that it is a struggle to not feel overwhelmed by any task at hand.  I admire your ability to work from home.  I tried that on one occasion (pre-depression) and I do not have the self-discipline to do so.  I either worked too hard or not hard enough depending on what else was going on in my life.

Ralph, I know the difficulties I have with focus, concentration, and decision-making are definitely different pre and post depression.  I cannot read a book, barely a chapter though I work on that daily.  I can read snippets and try to read  the Reader's Digest (written on a 6th grade level) over the course of a month.  I used to be able to read it in one sitting.  That is one of the things I miss the most reading and studying and research.  I agree with Diva - an excellent point!

Wildcat, you are so right, I am labeled with the best of folks!

Diva, thanks for the hug (I needed that).  My problem with work is that though I am cutting back to 4 hours the productivity is expected to be the same.  I don't know how to deal with that.  Talking with people is not something I can cut out, I guess the documentation will suffer.

Thanks to all for the encouragement and support - what a wonderful thing!
