Hobbies

Shari,

It sound like you are having nice time with your new hobby.  Your soaps sound lovely.  I also grow lavender.  I haven't grown berries, they do sound delicoius.  Sorry to hear you hurt you neck.  I know how it can be hard to sit at he computer when your neck is hurting.   I also have problems with my neck and spine,  degenerative joint and disk disease in my spine and neck. My neck has fused on its own now and I also had back surgery on my lower back about 21 yrs ago.  I am so sorry you are in pain right now. Take all the time you need to get well.  Rest is the best thing now.  See you when you are feeling better.

Hi Shari:  The soaps sound lovely, especially the lavender.  I have lavender in the garden and they are growing into bushes, had to move them this summer and I think I lost two.  I've been making sachets for years and using them in linen closet and drawers, etc. and gifts.  Sorry to hear about your neck.

Yesterday I planted 2 blueberry bushes, 1 raspberry bush and 1 blackberry bush.  I also made enough lavender and peach soaps to last through the winter :)  I have cervical spondylosis in my neck with 3 bulging neck discs, one of which is touching my spinal cord which causes tingling in my arms and hands.  I also have bone spurs in my neck.  I definitely over did it yesterday and my neck is really sore.  I'm not able to sit at the computer for that long, because of it.  So, if I seem to disappear, it's just that I am recovering from my neck injury.  I wish everyone the best.  Your friend, Shari

Some times when I had the patience I would line the soap molds with green leaves and they would leave (no pun intended) their imprint in the soap. Some would leave a scent also.

Sunny,

I'm going with primitive and earthy :)

I haven't given up on being a chicken lady, sometimes the timing isn't right.  So, I'm calling myself, a future chicken lady.  I can't stop flipping everything to the positive and I don't want to :)  I'm permanently optimistic!

Shari:  aww, you would have been a great chicken lady too!   Well I bet you'll be just as good with the herbal products.  With your art background you'll be making beautiful things and packaging is so important too.  Will you be packaging them primitive and earthy, or elegant and seductive?  I've seen them done both ways and it depends on your audience, who you are selling to.  You know, that reminds me, I always wanted to design packaging.  So interesting.

I live in a small old house too from the 1800's.  It was a log house at one time but it's all covered with white clapboard now from ages ago.  In the attic and in the basement are very large cedar beams.  The basement must have been dirt at one time but is concrete now.  And there have been additions, but I can still see where the stove pipes went for the woodstoves.  Neat.  In the back garden I'm finding square hand forged nails and small bones.  Don't know what kind of bones they are, creeped me out when I first moved here, but now quite used to it.  I figure the back must have been the work area and part of the burial of pets or leftover from meals?  The bones are too small for large farm animals.

Shari

I thought you might have too many hobbies anyway. Maybe you can find a chicken screen saver lol. Or make one.

Well, I found out today, that hubby doesn't want to do the chicken hobby.  We have a 106 year old farm house that's a fixer upper and there are more pressing projects in home repair.  He'd rather put the money into that rather than chicken fencing and converting a shed to a coop, etc.  So, I didn't skip a beat, and now I've got 3 other hobbies with hubby's approval.  I ordered a dozen herb seeds from two different online seed catalogs.  And, I am going to make herbal teas, herbal soaps and scented candles.  That should keep me busy.  By the way, my cat is fine from eating the lizard head.  A good friend of mine told me, if pets eat a poisonous animal, they will throw it up and be fine.  So, next time, I won't blink an eye about it.  I heard from my daughter today and have her new box number for college.  She's a Cinema Major and is going to be a Film Director.  She is a Producer this year and she's already contacted actors and found locations to shoot a movie next month.  So, everyone's busy and having fun.  Just wanted to post the update as soon as I found out.

Two items, I swear are true, for chickens.  One, they actually sell "chicken diapers", so your pet chicken can live in the house with you.  Two, I saw a "bullet proof vest" or "flack jacket" for chickens.  It has two large orange circles within a circle to represent predator eyes (owl eyes) on the back.  It's supposed to keep birds of prey at bay.  I wonder what the chickens think about all this?
