Quote of the Day Part Two

Remind yourself regularly that you are better than you think you are. Successful people are not superhuman. Success does not require a super-intellect. Nor is there anything mystical about success. And success isn't based on luck. Successful people are just ordinary folks who have developed belief in themselves and what they do. Never - yes, never - sell yourself short.
D J Scwartz

I imagine principles are important to successful people?  Today I found our neighbour is  dumping trash in our bin, so I had more stuff I'll leave until the next pickup.

Am I principled to be annoyed, and call the city to see what my options are, or am I just petty?   I know that being assertive means knowing my rights, but am I just looking to be difficult?

Following rules is a discipline but how you follow them gives you expression and individuality. The disciples did not all think alike but they did follow the same rules with the same intention in mind.
What is right and important is the variable in this equation. What is right and important to you yet still allows you to stay within the rule. After all we are not sheep. Which is a shame because we seem to have as much stress as the dog herding them. Poor me, I could never be a sheep so I guess I'm stuck with my anxiety even though it is controlled.

Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.
- Brian Tracy

Being a disciple means following a set of meaningful rules, having similar sources to this quote

I'm making stuff out of salvaged wood (fire wood) because of the pattern in it that forms when bacteria invade it. This is birch and a pattern this close to a flower is not that common. Some of my stuff is actually held together with varathane then sanded down to the wood and oiled. Some stuff though is even too far gone for that. There is beauty in being a freak or odd, a pity more people didn't realize that.

This piece is a cake stand about 11 inches across and still needs more oil and polishing but that takes a lot of time even though it is only a few minutes every few days.

Life is short so a person needs to pick what they want to do to leave their mark and still enjoy it. I would think your Dad was probably like that. I used to do metal, it is more forgiving than wood but far dirtier to work with.
But you don't need as big of an outlay for tools. I could buy a new car for less than it would take to replace my tools but I wouldn't get as much fun out of it.

Hi Davit,

I parked outside, but there wasn't anything  there.

Beautiful woodwork Davit!  So inspiring to hear all the things you can do.  Dad passed away years ago, but I can't believe all the stuff he did - woodwork  around the home, metal art and drafting and furniture installation.

Life is so short and there's so much to do

Probably not but if you went slow enough he might of just stayed under the car rather than run away.
Did you look under it after?  We don't have racoons here but we have Pack Rats, and you certainly know when you have one in the garage.

Believe and act as if it were impossible to fail.
- Charles F. Kettering

Unless I was having a nightmare, I saw a racoon go into the garage via the walk-in door.  I drove the car out, and closed the doors behind me, checking to make sure he's out, since there's little clutter.

I wonder if he hung onto the under chasis of the car for a ride, while I drove out, and back in, though

If you bought your chair from sears and the plastic brackets that hold the back on broke as mine did, you can throw away the plastic and put the bolts back in through the metal parts. The back just doesn't come off anymore. As mine did a few times and dumped me on the floor. As I said, not my fault, just a design fault. My other complaint is that since it is upholstered it is made of wood I wouldn't use for fire wood. But that is life. Industry keeps using shortcuts that lead nowhere and we the consumer are left in the cold with nowhere to go but to start over. And this chair is supposed to be good for a hundred pounds + more than I weigh.
Just stating a fact here, not complaining, I've got to the point where I put one hand over my butt and the other over my wallet when making purchases so I don't get ........ed to often.
It is starting out a nice day, I'm going to see if I can mess it up with a second watered down coffee.
It is supposed to warm up for a few days. I want to get outside to my garage and drag in some more boards.

Davit.   Making bread again, last batch went to cinnamon buns instead, I can do that even messed up.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Davit,
Glad to hear about your chair.  I put together a chair too, and I've been wanting to buy this for years

I wish I could take a course in interior design, but there's so much to declutter, that I can't yet justify it...maybe later

The word that's operative for me in the quote from the Panic centre toolbox is "nonsense"

Yeh. The chair is back together with some help from Sunny and the cat Thomas. Thomas spread the bolts around and told me that if I gave him cat treats he would shut up and leave me alone. Sunny found all the bolts and it went back together relatively easy. That done I can go back to doing something I want to do. Some where in here I have to grease my Hospital bed. But not right now. Right now I'm going to help make supper. (sticking my nose in where it isn't needed) I cut onions because they don't bother me. I'm pretty good at stirring things too.

I do feel better that the chair is back together and works. Especially since it wasn't my fault it was broke.

Davit.
