For the ladies only please

Debora... I thought it quite thoughtful of you to say this thread was for Ladies Only, Please... nothing rude about that.  In fact, it makes me more comfortable joining in on the topic.  You don't give yourself enough credit!

Anyway...  you really do need to find a GYN to do a complete exam (again preferably a woman).  I know it is hard.  Really, really hard to go about finding a new doctor.  But this is something you can do ... a specific action you can take to help ease the anxiety about your bodily functions.  First step is hitting the phone.  Ask your nurse friend for recommendations.  Make an appointment to meet and greet without a physical exam (that makes it easier) and then follow up if you feel confident about the physician.

Unfortunately...  sometimes... being a woman is just a royal pain :)  Hormones wreak havoc at all stages of life, but heading into menopause is extra tough partly because it is unknown...new territory for us.  I can tell you from experience that coming out the other side is wonderful.  It gets so much easier once the transition is over.  So you do have that to look forward to...eventually.  In the meantime... get to a doctor who will hold your hand through the transition.  I personally prefer a nurse practitioner over an MD... but they are sometimes hard to find

Sunny offers lots of good advice about the reflux and heavy bleeding with a lot of pain every time (I had both... still have the reflux and take pepcid complete for relief AND tilt my bed up).

Finally, in my opinion... husbands are next to worthless during this time.  It is a rare man that can handle the ups and downs our bodies take.  They feel helpless to FIX whatever is wrong and it drives them nuts which comes out as anger AT US for a condition we have no control over.  That's my take anyway.

Hi Debora:  Forgot to mention about the stomach.  I used to have acid reflux - still get it once in awhile.  Could it be that?  When you are tense digestion isn't the best.  Have you tried antacids?  Liquid form is better for me.
Just a suggestion.  Also ginger mint tea.  Awesome stuff, works very well for nausea and upset/acid tummy.

thinking of you and saying a prayer,

Hi Debora:  Sorry for last night, what you are going through.  I had a fibroid which caused heavy bleeding for the first couple of days when I had my period.  It just got so bad that I wouldn't go out for two days just in case.  My doctor thought it would be better to have a hysterectomy - this was after a few years of monitoring - and I agreed.  I was 50 yrs. old then. I feel great now.  I sure hope you can get some help about this.  From what I've heard this happens often enough.  Don't give up and talk to your doctor about it.

Thank you very much Samantha for your reply. You were correct it seems to be tapering a little bit I am trying not to focus on it. I tried to eat a little something and now my upper stomach hurts, like something burst or an ulcer or something, again I am just trying to focus on something else and try to think its just indigestion, when I am upset its a big mistake to try to eat but I thought some protien would help. Its been a very bad day and I am just trying to get through it, I am trying to calm my tummy now, my husband is livid at me so very upset and I just went and sobbed for awhile sometimes the tears help just to release the tension but the body symptoms are still awful, awaiting the day they subside and I get at least a little relief.

When I titled this thread "for ladies only" I was thinking that the men on this site may not want to read about this or find it distasteful or too graphic I was not trying to offend them or omit them I was thinking they just would prefer not to read about it so thats all I meant. I am going to write in my diary now and do my homework hoping the symptoms will go away soon its almost time for bed and I just want to sleep and not be up all night again, sleep lately is the only thing that makes it go away.

Hello Debora,

I am sorry to hear that your upset and worried about  what is happening with your period right now. If the flow seems out of control and you don't wish to see a doctor or go to the emergency department I would recommend calling the telehealth phone line. The number would depend where you live, Canada or US. Do a google search for telehealth, you can call and there are nurses available to answer questions and advise you if you need to seek treatment from a physician.

Otherwise, know that we are here for you and this excessive flow should taper off with time.

We are here for you.

I am very upset right now ladies perhaps someone can help and reasure me I am in the middle of a full blown panic. I am in peri menopause so my periods have been wacky lately coming every 2 or 3 months this one came yesterday only 2 days late so I thought it would be kind of normal I was wrong. I am bleeding very bad heavy and I am so scared my friend is a nurse and said nobody has every bled to death or died during thier period but it feels like it, is this normal when you are starting menopause? I always flow heavy but this is heavier and unexpected because it was pretty much on time, I have been staying off my feet hoping it will taper, I guess the first and second day is heavier right? my husband locked his keys out of his truck so he has to have someone bring him home then go back 12 miles to get his truck so he wont be home till late and my son is gone, I am alone and very scared, I am going to lay back down with my legs up. There is only so much lining up there right? and once it sheds it will taper right? I am trying to think positive about this, I am weak and dizzy, I dont have a regular GYN and I dont want to go to ER or urgent care and have them prodding around up there making things worse. things should taper off right? this has happened before but I am all alone and its adding to the fear.
