Raising yourself to that point of no return can be done with small steps.  I do this by providing supportive rewards, and small deterents to not carrying out my goals.  It's great to hear from an Olympian

You can never get rid of the past but deleting a journal when you find you are no longer using it (forget to write in it) is like a form of closure. Like saying good-bye to a life you never have to live again. Like wiping the slate clean and starting over again leaving all that stuff behind. I will always remember how bad I was but I don't need the detail. Life goes on with or with out us. 

I can not stress too much how important a journal is. We are not capable of keeping all that information straight otherwise. Especially in a confused state that exists with our condition. It is too easy to think we are better or worse than we are just because that is what we want to believe. A journal is a reality check.

One hint, if you like to put numbers to every thing, do them with colours. it is far easier to see progress at a glance that way. Ten colours are not necessary. Five works quite well, one for every two points. I've done colour graphs too but it is harder than just a journal.

Keeping a journal can be very therapeutic and I especially like the idea of highlighting certain aspects of your records as a way to monitor your challenges and successes.  It must be even more rewarding to reach a point where you can delete it and move on from the past!

Hi:  I kept a journal too and have deleted it.  I read it over a few times and honestly, thought "who is this poor person"?  I have come a good way from then, thank goodness.  It made me uncomfortable to read it, it was that painful.  Glad that's over with these wonderful years. It was a good tool though, and it was good to see where I came from and how well I am today.

I kept my journal in my computer under what is called "pages", my writing program. I colour coded important things and dated it. At a glance to can tell how you are doing by the number of coloured things in a month. Red for bad, purple for medication, black for mediocer every day okay and green for the odd truely fantastic day. The list of colours and what they mean could go on.
