Bad Panic Attack Please Help!

There is little that can stop a panic attack other than Ativan if you don't have the skills to do it otherwise. But the program will give you those. More important it will give you the skills to prevent them which is far more desirable. It will take a while to do this but believe me it is better than a lifetime of panic attacks and even worse a lifetime of expecting them.

Some of us here are considered cured, some of us have a lot of experience too. What ever your reason for panic someone here probably understands it.

Welcome Mightymouse... love the name :)  So glad you found us... while the nature of online forums makes it difficult to support you in the middle of an anxiety attack, the information on how to deal with them (and how others have dealt with them) is available 24/7 which is soooo very nice when we get stuck in the middle of the anxiety and panic.  As Sunny said, there are many tools here that will help you to get better.  I'm glad you are here... hoping just reading was a help to you last night.  We are here for you.

Hi Mightymouse:  Welcome to the site.  Have you ever studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy before?  If not, you can start today, Session 1.  This CBT is one of the best programs for anxiety and stress related disorders.  I used to have panic attacks often, now no longer have any.  If I ever get symptoms visiting me again, I use the relaxation and meditation exercises which effectively calm me.   Good luck.  Hope you join the forums, we all started at square 1 once upon a time.  Some on the site are well again and some are in the middle and some like you, are just starting.  We support each other here and are a caring bunch, so hope you join us.  You can read past posts too, lots of info. there.  Post as often as you want, ask as many questions.  There's usually someone here listening.

I just logged on and read you're post and my heart goes out to you. I am sorry this is five hours late, I am sure you're attack is well over by now and you are probably asleep I hope. Gee I hope I can help, I wish Sunny or Davit or Hugs or Bren or the others were here they are so much more knowledgable than me, I am still trying to recover myself, but I felt so bad when I read you're post because believe me I have been there done that hundreds of times and I am still alive if that is a comfort to you, I felt the exact same way you did convinced I was dying, and I always lived, they say you will NOT die of a panic attack, they are short-lived and they go away. I have had attacks where I stopped them and attacks when I could not, how I got through it was usually splashing the cold water on my face, lying down, breathing and saying a prayer and they always ended, you may feel tired afterward but you will live, I have had so many and I am still here and I had some doozies!
 
I hope I helped, I am not as good and recovered as the other wonderful people on this site, I will pray for you, it will get better, I told myself "when you stop fearing them they will go away" and that kind of helps, I still am not in great shape myself but you're post cried out to me, I hope you are sleeping peacefully and tommorow will be a great day for both of us.

 I am having a bad panic attack! My heart is racing! I feel sick! I feel like I am dying or having a heart attack! I have had these attacks off and on for many years! Can someone please tell me how to stop a panic attack! Need help! Thank you!
