Thank you Davit for your clarification. Session 8 from depressioncenter is also very useful for identifying core beliefs and assumptions.

Eleveno

This is just my impression but I would think that how long you have had the thought influences whether it is a belief or an assumption. Also the nature of it.

A core belief would tell you that you can not do the job because you have had a core belief telling you that due to past situations you have proved it, even if it is not so.
An assumption would be when you try something new with the preconceived notion because of the core belief that you will fail. I think that because an assumption is based on a core belief that it could be broken easier. If you started by assuming it could go either way you would have half a chance where as the core belief will spill a negative thought that stops you from trying. Just my thought. It depends on the individual. Attitude is going to play a large part in this. If you have a negative personality you will likely have negative assumptions.
Being Bipolar you will have both personalities depending on what phase you are in.
Depressed, negative. Manic, positive.
Again, just my impression.

I think an assumption could be:
If I did not suffer from anxiety or depression for many years I could have a better job today and would not feel so bad about my self..

Hello Ashley. I checked session 8 (Exposure and Simulation) in the toolbox but I didn't find information about assumptions and beliefs.

For more information on assumptions and beliefs check out session 8.  This session will tell you everything you need to know.

An example of a core belief:

I'm a loser.

Beliefs normally stem from past experiences.  They are so ingrained (accepted to be true) that they can be hard to recognize.

An example of an assumptions:

If I don't make lots of money I am a loser.

Assumptions normally include the words If or Should.

Can you give some examples of core believes and core assumptions?

Core assumptions can vary depending on the situation. Core thoughts and especially core beliefs do not change.

Members,

In addition to examining your core beliefs we’d like you to also spend some time identifying your core assumptions. Remember you assumptions are rules you live by.

There are a number of ways to get a better understanding of your assumptions. One way is to think about a specific situation in which you experienced some strong emotions and ask yourself what rules you have about those types of situations.
