Muscle Spasm

Anxiety produces several tensions in our body's which could be manifested in several forms such as muscle spasms, blurred vision, etc. Two things that have help me alleviating these tensions (besides meds) are yoga and writing.

Hello tidoublegerr,

You can read more about the panic cycle in the program. http://www.paniccenter.net/ProgramExercise/SessionView.aspx?session=1&pageid=S1_7
This session explains how the cycle can begin with physical sensations, behaviours or anxious thoughts.
It may be easier to picture the three components of fear, or The Panic Cycle, as a circle. The Panic Cycle can start anywhere in the circle.
Some people have told us that that they actually start to feel a bit better after reading the program up to that point. They tell us that they start to feel a bit better because before reading, they thought that they were the only person who feels this way. Sometimes it can be that simple.

When my anxiety got bad I started getting muscle spasms all day. Once I had a couple of calm days they went away again. I think it's normal in an anxious state.

Practicing the relaxation exercises on a daily basis can help with muscle tension and spasms.  If you practice all the time, then when spasms happen you can calm your mind and your body with relative ease....  well, that's what Sunny tells us all the time.... I'm not quite there yet... it still takes a lot of concentration and I know I don't practice enough.... but it does help!

T,
Knowing that we're in the panic cycle is half the battle, isn't it?  With physical symptoms, the next step is to see your physician, and separate the actual physical pain from the imagined pain(from our panic cycle before it takes off) and go from there to return to daily living.
Good for you for having a great stretch of success - don't let that blip get you down!

In the "Ask the Expert" section at the toolbar, the resident psychologist deals with a similar physical pain(with heart issues), as many of us get sucked into the panic cyle, whether it is by losing our imagined sight, stomach pains, etc.

Today I work up with high anxiety, I had a really bad day yesterday after having 3 weeks of good days (aside from the odd anxiouse situation which I was able to control) I woke up automatically thinking I was going to have another day like yesterday which snowballed from there and lead to even higher anxiety.

The question I have is if it is common for people to have muscle spasms while in an very high anxeity state, I have had trembling before but this was my first dealing with spasms to this extent. From what I recall I believe I may have been the cause of them in the firset place while I was anxiety I had one muscle twitch and my hypochondia kicked in making me think the worst and concentrate on seeing if I would have any more.  I think this may have just made things worse.
