Sorry to hear of your continuing struggle. It is a hard battle you are fighting so your frustration is normal. If the anxiety continues to increase or affect your life, you might want to speak to your doctor about it. Do you have a counsellor or friend you can talk to?

I wish it were that simple. I know it is just a matter of changing negative to positive but it can be a lot of work. An awful lot of work, I know cause I've done it and it still sneaks up on me. I had a girl friend that used a catch phrase which I hated and there is not much I hate. She said "just get with the program" and she did not mean this program. She was one of those self centred people that never had a panic attack or knew what one was. "just do it" is not as easy as it sounds either. This is mental not physical, you can't just sit down and have a rest. You push it too hard it bites you.

Anxiety is like a tunnel, so take the train through tunnel and enjoy the exhilaration as you pass through - life is usually dreary for most people.

It's also like an ocean wave, so hop on the board and enjoy that ride...we all wish we were with you....

A “coping card” is a written card to inspire you, with some affirmation that you can take out of your wallet/pocket  when you need it. That could help....or you could alarm your cellphone hourly/etc, with an affirming message.

Wow... I'm spacing out like crazy at work.  I'm having surges of intense anxiety about every 1-2 hours.  I keep refocusing and continuing with my work, but this is freaking me out and really annoying.

Hugs, I know how you feel about university. I've attended 3 universities and 3 colleges and the anxiety and depression kept interfering. Hard to pass a course from my bed. In the military though, I excelled at the education.
 
So Ducky! I wish you the best in this pursuit. You've made it a lot further in academia than a couple of us, so you must be doing something right. Stay the course.

Its great to see you that you feeling much more positive and excited about your future..It is a bright future and you have earned every bit of it by working hard and getting good grades..This is a great accomplishment worth being proud of.
Take all the positive positive posts and feedback you have received here and disregard the negative ones..Remember that these are there negative thoughts not yours..You have a very bright future and the whole world ahead of you.

To clarify, how do you avoid comparing yourself in academia, since there are high expectations, and you have to have selected as the cream of the crop...

I could never settle myself emotionally to get begin a first year in a university, as much as it was a dream.  I ended up on academic probation at two universities and the shame that goes with that.  
Eventually went to a community college, where I had to settle to a self-paced environment.  When I completed the community college diploma, settling for a two year, rather than 3 year programme, I avoided the convocation, which my psychiatrist attended!  He gave me a gift at my session of a cross pen, which means a great deal to me.
 
My career is over,  unable to accept a retirement party..I just basically walked out of the office, after coming from very humble beginnings(I had to leave school and fund my own education to be promoted on my merit).
 
Have to look after elder in the family now...

You've fulfilled my dream of going to university!  So how do you keep from comparing yourself to others?

That is awesome advice :)  Its true that if I'm in a positive/happy mood, I interpret this energy (aka; anxiety) in a very different way.  When I was in my undergrad, it used to drive me to compete, excel, achieve, etc.  But now I'm putting a negative spin on it probably because of what i view as past failure (past... meaning the last 2-3 years).  No real failures - only my mind writing stories.  I'm going to be excited about this, even if its just for today.
