Feeling sad

13 years ago 0 11 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Tiana,
yes, I have a Physician following me. But she tends to have trust what I want to do. she know's that I know my body and works with me to try whatever i feel necessary. I may consider the depression program, I'm working with a counsellor right now to try and get back on track. I also have found physical activity to work well in the past so am doing a bit each day.
Thanks for your support.

Davit,
I never turn away the chance to learn something new. I am always interested in how different meds have affected different people.
Thanks for your words of wisdom. sometimes it's people that try medications that can give you more accurate information than any book :)

Hi Angel80,

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Are you following the advice of a doctor? As a nurse also, I know we tend to adjust medications on our own, trusting in our knowledge and personal insight. However, I do suggest you talk to your doctor about the changes you are planning, including your feedback about how you are feeling. Sounds like in the past you have had success and I'm confident that with patience you can get to that point again. Do be gentle with yourself. Are you doing the program? Do you think that doing our depression program would help as well? It might help you feel better to work on that while you are feeling low energy now.

Keep us posted. We are here for you! It will get better!

I noticed you are an RN. So if I mention anything that you already know it is only in the interest of helping. Have you had vitamin and mineral levels checked. You are probably aware the low levels of a few of these things can drag you down and effect mood. We all know about the B vitamins, there is enough information on them but excess can make it worse so I really only concern myself with B12 because of its effect on the mind. At this time of the year it is easy to get low on D also. Calcium is calming in the fact that it is necessary for messages to cross the synapses. Confusion can lead to sadness and definitely to increased anxiety. Normal supplementation of Calcium, 1500 mg a day, will not cause stones. I find for me because of my Arthritis I go through a lot of Calcium. I get a lot of anxiety if I don't take it.

I mentioned Trimipramine before. Although considered an antidepressant it is actually a mood stabilizer, it works fast without the two weeks of hell from SSRIs. and there is no taper if you don't like it. Common side effects are somnolence and dry mouth. It also does not have to be taken as rigidly as SSRIs, it can be taken every second day or so. It works on dopamine. I am presently off it but would not hesitate to go back on if I felt I needed it. I have been on and off for a good many years, mostly off.

I know people who have been on clonazepam for years, adjusting there dose as needed. Two of them are bipolar so have no other option when they are in the manic phase.

Because of physical problems and negative core beliefs I do the emotional roller coaster. I'm lucky to have friends who help me.

I'm feeling pretty helpless on these antidepressants, i have decreased my dose and plan to go off of them. I have had enough of the "yo-yo" emotions. I will continue on my clonazepam, as anxiety was my first problem and until I started messing around with anti-depressants I never had so many emotional problems..........I'll keep you posted, may have to go up on the clonazepam to counteract any negative side effects and to get me through the dredded withdrawl.
Time will tell, and I can only pray that this will be my answer to a functional lifestyle :)
looking forward to feeling good

I never found SSRIs to prevent panic attacks, only to reduce them, but then I found it was the wrong antidepressant. I needed a mood stabilizer and went back to one I took thirty years ago when my Dad died. Trimipramine is rather mild and works on dopamine instead of seratonan. But unless proven different (my case) SSRIs are still the first choice. I know a few people that have been on Clonazepam with out the rebound that comes from Ativan for years. And yes with all drugs there is a balance between effect and side effect.

Some times less is more and often more is not better. But doctors are guilty of thinking we all need to be on a higher dose than needed, some of us ( me especially ) are very sensitive. I seldom can take a normal dose of any thing that works on the CNS. One thing people, doctors included do not take into consideration is clearance. If you are taking other medication that uses the same enzyme in your liver to break it down you may have one or the other delayed in clearing and get a build up. This is why the slow increase in meds, It is not for the side effects so much as that your body can adjust to breaking them down. I have meds that have to be two hours apart because they react to each other or both use the P450 enzyme in my liver.
Life is complicated but still interesting, and definitely better without panic attacks.

Here for you,
Davit.

Hi Davit,

Thanks for the info. I have tried many different antidepressants. 5 to date, I was on 30mg of Cymbalta and found it was good but think it was increased too quickly as i still had really down days. During that time I was excercising EVERY day!!! have not done that in years. I'm now at 60mg and find that all I want to do is sleep, also noticing that I'm repeating things in my head. And having negative thoughts. These are common side effects when I go too high on an antidepressant. I'm also taking Clonazepam, this is what keeps me sane anxiety wise. I discovered it about 2 years ago, and find it to be awesome. I'm on a very low dose so not too worried about dependency, plus i'd rather take it than feel like i'm going to die from severe anxiety. I have also sought out counselling for my job loss, i think that this has allowed me to grieve. Now i just have to get stabilized and get back to work.

Thank you all for your kind, supportive words.

Juanita.

I was trying to explain the feeling to our mutual friend and realized people that have not had this feeling might not understand what I meant. It is a heavy sort of all invading sad that clings like saran wrap making it almost impossible to find an interest in anything. Again people may not know this feeling, It drags me down but is gone and I am busy making bread now. That is the thing with being sad, if I can find out why I am I can usually get rid of it.

Thank you for the concern. I guess right now I have a few reasons to be sad. Hope to get the cast off on Wednesday.

Uncle,
Davit.

Welcome.
The only medication that I know of that might do both is Busperone, (Buspar) It is a non benzodiazapene anti anxiety that is not prone to dependancy. Easy on and easy off if necessary.

Here for you,
Davit.

Ps when you do find something can you let us know so I can look it up for future reference.
