Hi Debi,

I’m afraid of my own shadow.  I find I’m okay when I connect with people who support me. Maybe it’s since they replace the negativity we’ve learned...But I never really thought about that randomness of attacks or any pattern for me...my whole adult life has been trying to get better. Let's not let the stigma of our condition make us feel guiltier than, say a diebetic, or a person with Crohn's disease, etc...

What’s good to know, is our friends(i don't have any right now(:  ) are just a phonecall or mouseclick away, as is this forum.

I guess I felt better seeing another forum talk about “survival” and I “just had to” change my motivation video and personal picture - check it out!

Hi Debi,
I seem to have the same thing... mine come randomly, and the exposre part is hard. I too am doing the program with meds.
I am doing a lot thinking, trying to figure out where and why they are coming...
How long have you been here?

I am still on the exposure part of the program and am sticking with this for a while, i am classing everything i do well and with no attacks as good exposure and also try to throw in a challange here and there, its hard because i dont have a fear of one certain thing and my attacks in the past have come on randomly (or i thought so driving did have something to do with it) so i just try and do lots of things, i try to look at them positivly and look forward to them, i am doing them like i am taking a medicine and say to myself this is part of my treatment not just an outing i seem to get more out of it that way

None of us like to be told what to do. (generalization) But some times it is the only way to learn.
And since CBT is about learning it is necessary to do the program. A form of being told what to do. Of course once you absorb it it becomes yours and it is no longer telling you what to do. I got a lot of surprises when I started CBT. I never knew about core beliefs or there effects, same with emotions.

No I wouldn't call it aggression.  I just don't lie the fact of being told what to do

Kevin

Is that aggression I hear aimed at yourself? Turning negative to positive is not that hard to do, but you have to want to do it. And you have to have a reason too. I got mad at My therapist once for having her tell me I was too happy with my anxiety. I had to learn to kick my own butt.
The guy on the horse may not be a drill sergeant but nor is he a hippy, what he is is a success. You have to like you before you can help you.

Here for you,
Even if it means being critical.

Hey,

I get that all the time, Im pretty negative and don't really care for hobbies or things. I personally find writing things down or lists are a drag and personally don't do them either.  Im on Cipralex to and find it to be better than Paxil, less side effects. Yeah there are people with big problems but anxiety and GAD aren't small problems either.  You must first think of yourself before you can help others.  I do it all the time.

It is very hard to turn negative thinking into positive, and find even if I did I may look like a flower loving hippie and not a tough looking drill sergeant.

Hi Ducky,

I'm sure many of us can relate to what you are saying. Aside from the meds, are you also doing the program or practicing CBT? You mention whining a couple times- maybe you need to re-frame your thinking about your thinking!

Hi,

Thanks for the input.  It seems like I have this chronic pessimistic/negative attitude.  When thinking of writing 3 things I wish to do this week, I think to myself that "I don't feel like doing anything", but I do do stuff because sitting around complaining isn't going to help.  Sometimes I feel like why bother because I never feel good.  I know that I have to disregard these negative thoughts, but its really hard when you are so used to thinking and feeling this way.  I try new hobbies and I often think, do I like this?  I don't really know always when I enjoy myself.  Does this make any sense at all.

Despite all this, I plug on.  I work 5 days a week and contribute to societ and help others.  I don't want to be this self-absorbed and think about me, me, me, because I know that there are many people with way bigger things to deal with than me.

- Ducky
