We've got a new coffee and sandwich shop opening across the street. They encourage you to stay as long as you like. I thought about bringing some knitting with a few finished pieces as a conversation starter. Maybe I can find some friends through that venue. It's worth a shot anyway.
hahahahaha - you guys are a scream. loved all the latest posts. Yes, sense of humour is so important. Shari you were very brave to go to the dentist anyway and share your story. That was great. Believe it or not over 20 yrs. ago, I once had my hair dyed blonde and excitedly waited for hubby to come home. He never even noticed!
About making friends: all your ideas are good ones. Sometimes high schools offer adult education evening classes at a lower price. How about travelling seminars or attending lectures about a subject you're interested in - helps you meet like-minded people. and of course, volunteering. I know I might go on a bit about this, but you not only help others, you can help yourself too. Just throwing some ideas out.
I keep getting told I should be a writer or teacher and if I was younger I think I would do it. And I certainly would dedicate it to you. At least you would be on the top of the list as you all are my friends. And you all have your funny moments. I love this site and every one on it, I will consider the book. I think a self help book with humour in it would really be a big help. It certainly works here. Dry information books are hard to digest, A little humour for sauce would make it more digestible. But beware you may find yourselves in it under different names. Just all of your improvements in the last while would make an inspiration book and that may be needed more than a help book or one that has both. Ok Davit quit you are getting excited about this.
I went on line to look at classes offered at our local community college. The fees and cost of the classes averaged $150 -$300. I have a daughter in her junior year of college and can't afford to take those classes. However, I am going to look for clubs to join for various hobbies and try to meet people that way. Just wanted to give you an update.
I have stepped out of my comfort zone, before, by taking a crochet class despite feeling claustrophobic in the class room. I will see what new classes our local college has for this fall. Thanks again :)
Haha....But that is pretty sad of that hairstylist to tell you to go buy a box of dye and do it yourself! I haven't been to a real hair salon in years...I got claustraphobic the last time I was there.. and had a panic attack..I just hate having that black plastic cape around me and being pumped up in the spinny chair. ..I guess I feel trapped.... my agoraphobia...so I dye and cut my own hair. Someday I wish I could go to a real hairstylist...but then I remember the bad cuts I used to get before I got anxiety...my "do " isn't so bad... one length with bangs. Easy to put up. I did a few years of au -natural...my excuse being too cheap to have it done every 6 weeks..but it was really because I was scared of going to the hairdresser...I hated my gray..whole head except one big stripe down the back of dark brown...yuck! Reverse skunk..Anyhow, nice having some "girl" chat.
Davit....I want a dedication in your first book to "Cleo..my funny friend"..ok?
Great sense of humor. I do the same, I try to find the humor in every situation. I used to say, "One day I'll look back at this and laugh." Now I say, "Why not laugh at it now." Once in awhile if a younger person says something like that to me, I just think, "One day you'll be this age." It reminds me of a story when I thought I was old (ha ha). When I was in my 30's and had a random gray hair or two, I decided to dye my hair blonde. I looked at the hair swatches (if that's what you call them) and showed the hair stylist "golden blonde". After she applied the color to my hair, I said, "This looks too dark" and she assured me it would "lighten up" after drying. When I looked in the mirror, I was a very dark red head! I called my hair stylist friend as soon as I got home. She told me to get a box of hair color at the store that said, "ash blonde" and it would counteract the red and make it blonde. After re-dyeing my hair. It was ORANGE. I don't mean carrot top orange, I mean flourescent crossing guard orange. What was worse is I had a dental appt. I had my hair stuffed in a cap and received odd looks in the waiting room. I've never been the white elephant in a room before, or I should say orange elephant. I told everyone the story and they all started laughing. Then I took my cap off and you could hear a pin drop. It was one syncronized gasp that sucked the air out of the room and then it was replaced by even louder laughter. So much so, that the dentist, the assistant and the patient he was working on, came out to see what was going on. Afterward, I went back to the place to get it fixed and they tried to blow me off. So, I sat down with my neon hair o' flames and said, "I can wait all day." You should have seen the looks of the customers coming in, and going back out. They got me in the chair in about 5 minutes. As you probably have guessed, I haven't colored my hair since :)
