I just just just joined here. but your post where you say you don't eat much with the attacks is what i experience as well. my appetite totally dissapears as soon as i feel distressed and it becomes hard to ensure i've eaten enough by the end of the day on a bad day. what works is to eat anything i crave even if its not healthy (i.e. french fries) until my stomach is back to more normal. and bland foods that are easy to digest - i eat lots of crackers to get through. but of course, tehre are no nutrients in those. so i've found these great little things they are called emergenc-c (as in vitamin c) packets of powder with lots of vitamin c and electrolytes which (i find) helps me prevent feeling dizzy from lack of food.

i thought i would mention those. also crystallized ginger can be easy to nibble on and settles the stomach a bit. hope that helps. i feel for you. i feel faint giving blood and cannot watch the needle at all. i breathe a lot during before and after.

Faeriequeene-

I like how you've already identified a physical sensation (feeling light-headed from not eating) and realized how it triggers your panic cycle. Identifying what causes you to panic is a first major step towards recovery. Even though panic attacks are still miserable, they become a little less scary when you know what is going on. For instance, now you can tell yourself things like "Okay, my body doesn't like this, but the only reason I feel dizzy is because I haven't eaten much today."

I've found that it helps to tell myself panic attacks won't physically harm me and that they do ALWAYS end. Hang in there - the medication will help stabilize you and then you will be in a more comfortable place to tackle this through your counseling and the therapy here.

Hang in there, we're here for you!

Hi faeriequeene11:  Hold onto to our hands.  We extend them in friendship and support.
I have found that a very hot bath helps to relax the muscles.  Maybe you can listen to some soft music at the same time or before bed.
When you feel panicky, concentrate on your breathing - easy does it.  Cool air in and warm air out.  You can say a calming word as you exhale, such as "peace".

Will be thinking of you and saying a prayer that it goes well for you tonight and tomorrow's appt.  Do let us know how it goes.  Cheering for you.

Well, it's up to 5 panic attacks so far today. One was pretty big, after I got blood drawn at the doctor's. Usually I don't like needles, but I don't feel really dizzy and short of breath afterwards either. I think maybe the dizziness was from lack of food (I don't eat much with the panic attacks, plus it was a fasting blood test) but either way, I think my body might have taken the dizziness and thought, well, it's time for another panic attack because half an hour later, it was full-blown. I'm glad I'm probably getting medicine tomorrow, though. As you can tell, I'm kind of desperate to make these end. I want to thank everyone who's posted so far. Any more advice to get through the next 24 hours would be helpful. I've read the first part and the relaxation part already, and the breathing has helped, as did the muscle relaxation.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I'm not on medicine right now. I see my psychiatrist for the first time tomorrow. I'm hoping he'll put me on something that'll help. I definitely want to be on something. I've had two panic attacks so far today, but not really bad ones. Not like yesterday. I'm glad I can come on here if I need to.
