Hi Sounds like you bought my leaky boat. Been there done that. Including spending time in the psych ward for contemplating suicide. I'm one of those that are feeling good, in fact I am probably as close to cured as people get. I sleep well and very little bothers me. But not always. I suffered 2 am. panic attacks for years. I was afraid to go to sleep. I was on medication. Turns out I was also Calcium deficient. A mineral needed for the transmission of information. I was on Ativan and did not like it. My doctor told me to try Lemon Balm tea which with a gram of calcium a day replaced the Benzodiazapene tranquillizers, Ativan and later Valium. I also dropped The SSRI and went to a mood stabilizer, A tricyclic anti depressant that works on a different chemical in my mind, Dopamine. SSRIs are first line but not always the right anti depressant. I still have the Valium and the Trimipramine but take neither.
CBT is the only cure but in the mean time you need the pills to allow you to absorb the information and right now you need to read the section on relaxation and coping skills. You need to be able to relax while you learn. Mostly right now you need information, information is the road to a cure. When you panic come here and write, and don't worry if you get it under the wrong heading, we all know about the confusion. Some one will find it and answer it. Write as many times in a day as you want to. Know that some one will be here. And I will always answer your questions as best as I can, you need only reach out you hand.
Like Sunny has mentioned the CBT program is very good and I encourage you to start chapter 1. It helped me a lot once I understood a bit more about panic. I suffer form cataclysmic panic attacks, but since finding this site and the wonderful people here my panic has become more controllable and manageable.
Read a the posts and post some of your own as often as you want, someone will always listen and reply. You have always got a friend here.
Good luck, you are in the right place.
Sunny: Love the pic, gorgeous. He/She looks so content.
faeriequeene11: Welcome to the site. There is an excellent CBT program here for you to learn and practice. I do hope you try it and stick to it. Psychologists and psychiatrists know about CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and studies have shown that it is one of the best programs for anxiety.
Don't be shy and post as often as you want and ask whatever questions you want. There is always someone here to respond. Some of us are feeling pretty good these days and some of us are inbetween and some of us, as you, are newcomers. We share our feelings, worries, fears and symptoms and SUCCESSES too. We know that everyone here understands because they've been there too. Read lots of past posts and you'll get an idea how the forums work but also you will learn about others' coping techniques and you are sure to find something to help you along your journey to healing.
Hope you do give this a try and hope to hear from you again. Good luck. Take it easy today, do some deep breathing and relaxation techniques if you can.
I'm here because I've had a lot of panic attacks in the past month-up to 7 a day, and I need help to make them stop. I'm seeing both a psychologist and a psychiatrist but this can help me when they're not there, so if I have another panic attack I won't end up in the ER again.
I'm not really sure why I'm having them, either, but sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy or I'm going to die. I think about death a lot, but I'm determined to NEVER consider suicide, no matter how bad the panic attacks get. And sometimes they get really really bad.
I hope being able to discuss my symptoms with other people will help me.
