Changes/Transitions

Hi Ashley:  I almost didn't see this post.

I hadn't thought about the gift.  The very first thing that came to mind (and this surprised me) was my life.  I am still able to share my life with everyone.  I still have my family to love and enjoy.  I still have my life.  Life is the gift.

Great discussion!

Red, I love how you said you accept change more now and you accept yourself more as well.  This is so important and I know it takes a lot of work to get to that place.  What do you think assisted you in getting there?

Sunny, you are so strong.  You say you are still trying to learn from those experiences I think it is great that you are able to still look for learning even during a difficult time.  Another way to look at that question is what is the gift in that situation?  I know it is a very difficult question to ask when looking at a terrible experience but it can change how you look at finding that learning.

Jas, great posts.  I have really enjoyed reading from you lately!  You are making great contributions in the forums! Thank you!  I love your attitude about change - made me smile to read it!  I hear you are going through a lot of changes now and red is right when she says it is an exciting time!  I have one question,  if you were to look back at your life ten years from now what would you remember, how would you see yourself and what would you say was most important?

One thing I wanted to add to the discussion is stress management are always a good idea especially while going through any life transitions.  Ensuring your "stress buffers" are in place will help manage stress and in turn help anxiety.  Some stress buffers are exercise, sleeping well, eating well, relaxation techniques, social support and this program of course!  Check out the auxillary session on relaxation techniques and practice them throughout the day.  I use the techniques regularly and they really help!

Sunny,

The health issues that happen as we age do bring about changes in our lives thats for sure.  As also does the people we have lost in our lives.  Know you are not alone in feeling this way. There are a few of us here that can sure attest to that.  These changes have been the hardest for me to accept in my life and have caused me anxiety and stress. I like what Jas and Josie pointed out  "It is not the situation, its how you handle it"  Like you, I choose to move on and make the best out of life.

Cleo,

You have had to go through so many changes in your life. I am so glad you found this program and are feeling better now.  I would miss you if you weren't here.  I think you are right  "Everything happens for a reason".  and that is why I am still here on this earth.  Since I am still here I might as well enjoy it.

Jas,
You are in the most exciting time of your life.  Yes it is a roller coaster ride.  I remember.  I loved it and I do miss it.  Time does move on and life changes as so do we.  I guess we all have to roll with the punches like you mentioned the bad times make the good times so special.  Thanks for pointing that out.  You are very wise.

Jas:  Yes, I love animals too.  My dog is just about always with me and knows my every move and sigh. They love us unconditionally and they don't repeat anything - lol.

Hi Red

So chuffed for you that you are in that happy, secure place of contentment. So impossibly hard to find and when its just in reach, it scarpers leaving a trail of dust. But nevertheless always worth looking for and I might just catch it one day.

Sounds like you and the rest who have been here a while had quite a bumpy ride along various paths in life. I am astounded by some of the stories I have read and how you have come through fighting fit. I am so touched and inspired by your stories, it gives me the courage and strength I need to fight my own corner.

Sunny: Thank you, Her name is Ruby a German shepherd. I have had her since she was 6 weeks old, she is nearly 2 now. My darling Ruby has seen me through some tough times. I am not sure what it is but I firmly believe that pets help in alleviating depression/anxiety symptoms.

Davit: What can I say my friend? You are an inspiration to us all! Love reading your posts man.

Cleo: So glad that you are enjoying life and what a life yours is. Full of big changes and sounds like you coped well. Excellent work sister, keep it up.

I too have had many changes and transitions in my life.  I have been a daughter, wife, mother, widow and now a life partner.
These changes have been like Jas described a roller coaster.  There have been both happy and sad moments.  I now understand that change both positive and negative has some stress and anxiety involved in it and that is a normal reaction.
I have been able to come out of my shell and deal with my agoraphobia in a positive way even when I know change may cause me some initial anxiety because I know the anxiety is only temporary and there will be a reward at the end. The reward is happiness and freedom for me. Which is very positive.  I am very content with my life as it is now and at the same time I welcome change.  I am much more accepting of the changes that are taking place at this stage in my life, because I think I am much more accepting of myself now.  I am enjoying this chapter of my life.

Res,

This is a great discussion piece.  Talking through and sharing experiences is a great way to assist others and yourself.

Davit:  By the way, like your new pic and your pet.   You look calm and peaceful. Siamese are real characters aren't they?  My best friend had one and that's the only kind she would ever have.
