Hi Susan: Welcome to the program here....CBT is the best. I hope you will give yourself the chance to try it, step by step.
As for the pains in your chest, it's great that you went to see the doctor. Now that you know it is not your heart, you can start to relax a bit and figure out how to tame that tummy. Your meds may take awhile to start working, so don't give up just yet. I used to have a lot of acid reflux and it hurt right in the middle of my chest, (thinking of heart problems of course) but it was indigestion because of anxiety. When your stomach is tied up in knots all the time you produce a lot of acid. What I did which you may find helpful, is cut coffee to only two cups a day and not in the afternoon or evening, or none at all is even better, no raw veggies for awhile, no nuts which were hard to digest at that time and no orange juice, anything acidic did a number on my stomach. It took a few wks. but it settled down. I found the over the counter, Zantac quite good. If you take it 1/2 hour before eating it helps a lot for acid reflux. Check with your doctor first though, to see if it can go with the meds you are taking. The pharmacist can tell you if it's compatible with your meds. Another thing, sleeping with two pillows instead of one, to keep your head, top of body elevated a bit, so acid stays in the stomach. It's not that comfortable at first, but you get used to it and it's helpful. It might take awhile to calm everything though, but pls. don't give up.
Christmas is a busy time but if you eat only little amounts of food several times a day, it is more easily digested than three big meals a day. At the big dinner, you'll be tempted to eat everything, but small amts.
My very best wishes to you. Take it easy, a lot of the stuff we think is necessary for Christmas (decorating, baking, etc.) really isn't. Maybe you can ask family members to help out too. Good luck!
