Sorry - I went off at a tangent there.

Anxiety attacks and panic attacks are interchangable.  The same thing but different names.

But sometimes I get very anxious - heart pounding, clouded mind, weak and fatigued, etc - but it's not an attack.  I am able now to control the attack, but can still have all the symptoms of anxiety.

Lisa,

Before I suffered from panic attacks, I was ignorant about it.  If it hadn't happened to me, I would still be ignorant.

Doctors ARE quick to prescribe pills and offer little in the way of information, quite simply because the only people who can really relate to you when you suffer from panic - are panic sufferers.

1 in 4 people in the world have had a panic attack.  That's not to say they went on to develop panic disorder, but they've experienced a panic attack.

When I went back to work, I was met by mixed reactions.  Half the people thought I was weak.  The other half knew all too well what I had went through.

My Human Resources manager came forward and admitted that she too had suffered panic disorder, and we discussed it.  It was refreshing.

It's amazing who comes out and admits to it when you've put yourself out there.

Lisa,   Panic Attack (PA): an episode of panic that resembles an extreme form of the fear response. Anxiety Attack: an intense episode of extremely uncomfortable anxiety, also known as a panic attack.
These are directly from our glossary and can be found under the community link, along with other important knowledge.
Start doing some journaling to pinpoint areas that you would like to work on and what areas you can start challenging.
Take the time to read through all the support and post often, we are here to help, welcome!

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the board!

To my knowledge, they are the same thing.  When the attack occurs, symptoms related to what you noted take place.  Anxiety in general means being in a state of uneasy, apprehensive, or worried about what may happen.  Though anxiety can lead to an attack, and the feelings can stay with you afterwards, the two are different in that sense.

Feel free to roam around and post where ever you would like.

Cheers

I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks, just wondering of panic attacks and anxiety attacks are one and the same. I get adrenalin rushes and sometimes fast heartbeats depending on how quickly I manage it. When I get physical symptoms ie chest tight, breathing off, chest pains, dizziness etc is that a panic attack or an anxiety attack?

Thanks in advance.

Lisa.
