Thank you all so much for your responses. It has been 6 days and yes the symptoms have significantly diminished except for the irritability part....However that may be me reaching my 40's. The brain zaps have all but gone and I feel so released. Thanks again for all your support but mostly for reassuring me that these brain zaps will indeed go away. They, as you know, are quite frightening. I hope you all have a wonderful day and know that you have done something for someone who absolutely appreciates it! Michael

Wow.. I'm so impressed with you all being able to wean off your meds. Good for you. I personally don't think I will ever be off of mine and I'm ok with that...most of the time. My "levels" have just never been balanced and I have struggled for years without meds just to prove a point.. that I didn't need them and unfortunately that is not the case for me. I just don't have enough seratonin so the synthetic will have to do.. I've tried to wean off of them before and it always creeps back..that's why I'm currently in a "setback"...and frustrated BUT I have just never been able to "push" through it long enough to get off of them. I personally stop "functioning" ... It might be that having babies just keeps my levels hopping.. I don't know. Michael though, I have had that fuzzy head feeling and it does go away.. I've gotten it both going up and down on my dose..and so far it has always disappeared. Keep pushing through and you will be successful.. You've already done the hardest part... You can do this... Great job to you all who are able to wean and be successful!! That is truly a triumph. :p

Hey Michael... I weened off my meds of Lexapro(SSRI) at the beginning of February and I started getting these zap like shiver like falling sensations.. is it something like that? It was really hard to describe but it kinda feels like a shiver and it usually happened just by moving my eyes. If this sounds similar to what you are feeling, then yes, I don't have them anymore. At the time I had them they really freaked me out and I got a CT scan and EKG and everything and I was ok. I've read a lot about how people who get off of anti-depressants get these sensations. Good job in getting off of useless chemicals. It also helped me by researching about the meds also.

hi michael, I had a similar thing with paxil, when i had to get off it. It took me months to get off them, those funky feelings in the head go away, once the pills are out of your system, just keep at it, it takes a while but check with your doc..good luck keep us posted.

Michael, Any reduction or change in medication can be an adjustment for your body. Take the time to call your doctor or pharmacist to further inquire about your medications. Josie, Health Educator

Any Advice I have been weening myself off of effexor (prescribed for anxiety in January /07). I am under the direction of a MD. who suggested a slow reduction. I have followed his instructions to the letter. The problem: Last thursday was my last med (37.5mg), since then I have been having real funny sensations in my brain. It is almost like a wee surge in my brain or a sense of 'freezing'. It only last for an instant but then it triggers a brief anxiety feeling in my stomach. If I am sitting quiet it is less likely to arise. But as soon as I engage in any physical activity or conversation I get them. They are a bit uncomfortable and almost feel like little teeny weeeny panic attacks. As I play competetive ice hockey and have a game this evening should I play? Will these things disappear? Has anyone experienced these things before and if so for how long? They are slightly creeping me out! Thanks for letting me drone on! Michael
