Splendour, Here are a few examples: DEEP BREATHING: 1) Take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time. 2) Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of 7. 3) Repeat this 3 times, as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. TENSION RELEASING: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5) Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. It's a skill. You have to practice several times a day to make it a normal part of your routine. If you do it will work. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

relaxation techniques? can you give me an example? I mean...other than lying on the sofa/bed and breath deeply I don't really know a lot of those.

I have checked with the family physician early last week and he doesn't think it's either panic or GAD at this moment...but I haven't really talked to a mental professional. I don't know why I am so concerned with this, it doesn't run in the family as far as I know. I have probably inherited the tendency to be over-anxious about random things from my mother, but she doesn't suffer from anxiety. We just..well..tend to worry a lot and then get over it quite quickly. It never bothered that much as now, because I can't seem to see an end for the cause of this worry. I mean I would like to know why I am like that, and it will probably point me to a direction of challenging this thought...yeah anyway I'm feeling better at this moment. I'm trying to figure out how to play an instrument right now and I've successfully increased my running distance....and I'm going through the program here as well. I hope I'll be able to get through this in the near future, hopefully before university...

Splendour, The best tool to confirm whether or not you have anxiety disorder is a mental health professional. It's very well possible that you don't have GAD or Panic but are experiencing anxiety due to stress or other. Again, seeing a mental health professional/family physician can help determine which is the case for you. Can I ask as to why you are concerned about this in the first place? Does it run in your family? In the meantime, do begin working through the program. Even if you don't have panic disorder, some of the skills you'll learn here such as thought challenging are transferable to many other areas in your life and the way you cope. Keep us posted. Hiya speldour, Have you started the CBT program here? Even if you donèt suffer from an anxiety disorder I bet the first three or four sessions could really help you with your thought proceses. Those session teach you to identify bad thoughts and challenge them. It sounds to me like it could be helpful to you. I find thought challenging to work really well if you keep at it :) Also, I find when being idle makes me anxious, well find hobbies, lots and lots of hobbies. Read, go out with friends, play music listen to music, garden, whatever as long as it helps keep you distracted :) Anyway, if you are looking for distraction hobbies there is a thread called drawing and coloring or something like that with an awesome list of possible hobbies. Also, as for thought challenging there is a thread on the forum that has tips for thought challenging. Anyway, hope this helps a bit. I am sure one of the support specialist will be here to give you more advice soon :) -Diva

I think I have fallen into this vicious cycle for the past two weeks...I checked again and again against every criteria there is on the internet, and determined that I really don't have either general anxiety disorder (this did not happen continuously for 6 months, just the last 2 weeks) or the panic disorder (see my introduction post)...all tests come back normal. Yet I am frustrated everyday over the possibility that I might have anxiety and there is no way I can get rid of it quickly. I can't forget about it, and the more I can't forget about it, the more I am afraid that I will have it.....then it just comes every day. Then I am afraid that if I get it a panic attack might happen when I move into university residences..although this thought is more easily banished than the former. I felt better this week than the last, and was able to get rid of this thought more frequently than last week. But right now I am again frustrated and can't sleep. I thought I just want to vent here.....any speciallist or those who has the experience can tell me what to do now? I'm exercising everyday, but because it's summer holidays and because I just went on vacation, now I don't have anything to do and I am at home alone everyday, not productive at all. All I am doing is trying to get rid of this anxious thought and have it coming back again........SOMEONE HELP!!
