Hi everyone,
Hmmmm, i'm tempted to self diagnose myself with GERD! I will try not too. But i do seem to have similar symptoms. When i eat, i cant breath....but then again, i cant breath good when i'm not eating as well....so it could just be anxiety. YOu see, its sooo hard to pinpoint the problem.
The whole day today my breathing was heavy and weird. When i ate, its worse. So even though I'm not really sure what GERD is, I'm assuming I can relate to it cause i'm sure it has to do with GAS pushing back up your esophagus.
oh goshhhhh, another thing to tell the doctor :confuse:
I struggled with wheezing for a long time and as you was embarassed to go back to my doctor until one day I nearly suffocated! I was with a friend who is a nurse and she told me I was having an asthma attack. I started seeing an asthma nurse and sure enough that is what it was all along. I had always assumed that it was anxiety!!!! So now I take asthma medication and no longer suffocate.
It is always worth getting things checked. If there is something wrong it can hopefully be sorted and if there is nothing wrong your mind will be at rest. That is what your doctor is there for, to care fo you and to reassure you and make sure that your symptoms are anxiety related or not.
Good luck!
Hi Isabella,
Not sure if this will help or not but I have asthma and acid reflux and have read that when you experience increased acid reflux it can affect my asthma also. Now I am not saying you have asthma but that the excess acid might make you wheeze more. Until you see your physcian you might try an antacid, and eat smaller meals. If you elevate your head and chest when you go to bed it should ease the acid coming up. I have has stomach problems since I was 12 years old. (I used to drink Maalox right out of the bottle) and ended up with H pylori (a fungus that was in my stomach that caused me to develop an ulcer) so I know how uncomfortable stomach problems can be. Good luck with all this.
Hi isabella,
Good to hear that you are going to see your doctor for this concern.
Don't worry about your doctor may think. Your health is important and being assessed by them will help you to understand what is happening.
Let us know how everything goes,
Casey

Diva,
Maggie had it right, what GERD means. It is so funny because I never had anything wrong with me until I had my son. Then I got hypertension at the end and severe heartburn that has now turned into GERD. I was diagnosed last summer and I was also suffering from an ulcer. Either the pregnancy did something or my anxiety is manifesting itself in my health LOL. Something has to change though. Thanks for the advice. It is always appreciated.

I looked it up for you and GERD seems to stand for 'Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease'.
Isabella-
I'm sure you are alright hun, but if you are this concerned about something, it won't hurt to speak to your doctor like you initially wanted to. I hope you feel better soon. ---<3[/font]
Isabella, your docotor will not judge you and it is his job to check you out when you go see him. so just go and see him if it will make you feel better.
Now i have a question tho. Might be silly but it has been bothering me lol. What is GERD? What do the letters stand for?
thanks lol

Lynnp and Lil_bit,
Thanks for responding. I really want to get this figured out but it has helped me to know that you, lynnp, also have these symptoms and have GERD as well. With my GERD I belch all the time, I have heartburn constantly, and I regurgitate sometimes. The doctor put me on 40 mg. of nexium, I was on zantac 150 mg. twice a day but that didn't seem to help much. I just hope that I am not getting asthma or something because I read, I know I shouldn't have looked it up, that asmtha is a complication caused by GERD. I just worry alot when I wheeze and feel as though I am short of breath. And I know how anxiety can make you short of breath but I try to stay calm when I wheeze. I don't know. Maybe it is just psychosomatic and all in my head but I think I will call the doctor tomorrow to just check on it. I am sure they have dealt with other hypochondriacs before LOL and one more isn't going to hurt ;-) I just don't want to be looked down upon as someone who is making things up or it's "all in her head". I feel like they look at me like I am some head case that is crazy. I don't like being a burden either and I feel that I take away time from someone who may need it worse than me. I guess I will see when tomorrow comes but I pray this goes away. Thanks for repsonding though. It really made me feel better.
