Symptoms of Anxiety

Hi Alison On top of my anxiety I also suffer from Fibromyalgia Syndrome. I have found that during all of this, my aches and pains have increased heaps. I have started noting what areas I am tensing up and am trying to relax that area but its not easy with the anxiety. I think a lot of the pains that people are talking about are mostly due to that fact they are so tense during a bout of anxiety. I know I am. I guess in a sense I am lucky in the fact I have already trained myself to ignore a lot of the "mystery" pains. Although it does make it hard to want to go out and do anything. What I find hard to deal with is the heart racing, blurred/sore eyes, nausea and my head gets so heavy its like having a migraine without the blinding pain. Shell

I don't know about you but these lists make me feel better because I often forget how just how many symptoms anxiety can cause. If your chest pain will leave for 2 weeks at a time and they've given you tests you could chalk that one up to anxiety. Also breast pain is rarely a sign of breast cancer. Often the more you think about something the worse/more intense the feeling gets. Exercising can help tons from getting your mind off your negative feelings and seeing how strong your body is. (If I remember correctly you are from Wpg?) Can you walk at a indoor track anywhere in your neighbourhood?

hi alison, what a list i can add some to it my symptoms of anxiety are chest pain shoulder and neck tension gastric emptying dizzy indegestion every day for a bouy two weeks out of a month i have tightness around my uppper chest the pain goes into my shoulder and neck, this often bring on an attack as i think its my heart. i have alot of gastric reflux i think this is with my hernia. i never had this until i started with panic attacks. i also have alot of breast pain which i get confused with wondering sometimes is it my breast or my chest once again brings on the panic attack.when iam in controll of thing i know its just anxiety but when my mind is on overdrive i then think its my heart. do you think its normal to have constant pain with anxiety even when iam what i think not anxious i still have this pain. i have had xrays and heart tests done and all is well, but i have this nagging doubt they have missed something because surley its normal to have this daily. any suggestions would help

Also came across this (I hope this is helpful): "The following list of anxiety symptoms includes the most common ones reported by actual anxiety sufferers. Whilst the list is fairly comprehensive, there may be symptoms that you experience that are not listed; this does not mean that you are more ill or suffering from something else, we are all biologically different in many ways and some people simply react differently during anxiety. Anxiety Symptoms Smothering sensations and Shortness of breath Racing heart, slow heart beat, palpitations Chest Pain Lump in throat & Difficulty swallowing Skin losing colour (blanching) Sweating Shaking or shivering (Visibly or internally) Neck & shoulder pain & numbness in face or head Rapid gastric emptying Indigestion, heartburn, constipation and diarrhea Symptoms of urinary tract infection Skin rashes Weakness in arms & tingling in the hands or feet Electric shock feeling anywhere in the body Dry mouth Insomnia Nightmares Fears of going mad or losing control Increased depression & suicidal feelings Aggression Symptoms like 'flu' Distorted vision Disturbed hearing Hormone problems Headaches & feelings of having a tight band around head Sore eyes Agoraphobia Hallucinations Creeping or pins and needles sensations in the skin Increased sensitivity to light, sound, touch, and smell Hyperactivity Dramatic increase in sexual feelings Pain in the face or jaw that resembles a toothache Derealisation and depersonalisation"

Here is one of the most inclusive lists of symptoms of anxiety I have come across: Too much adrenaline in the body causes ALL the symptoms anxiety sufferers are so familiar with: The typical changes in the heart rate associated with anxiety; Body sensations like dry mouth and throat, trembling (like in shakey handwriting), sweating, flushing, chest pains and tightness in the chest, being unable to breathe properly; Racing thoughts that spin out of control; paranoia and hallucinations; Headaches (stress headaches, anxiety headaches), migraines; Vision disturbances, dizzyness, inability to see things clearly or to interpret what is being seen correctly (like dyslexia or totally failing to make sense of numbers, maths, symbols, maps, etc.); Digestive problems as digestion is shut down or reduced during adrenaline outbursts; Eating problems such as sugar cravings (insulin reduces adrenaline in the blood), hunger pangs, and also loss of appetite on the other hand; Hypervigilance or becoming overly sensitive to all sorts of sounds, sights, touches, tastes and smells; Failure to be able to concentrate on the here-and-now, functional failures (performance anxiety) like clumsiness, erection problems, "blocks" (to writing, public speaking, social skills, learning etc. etc), forgetfulness; Inability to focus on others, making good connections with others, attuning or relating to others; Sleep disturbances, trouble getting to sleep, sleeping badly, feeling tired and worn out as a result - which makes all of the above even worse; ... and that is just the tip of the iceberg.
