Welcome back Vie,

I am glad you are preparing to tackle this again. You are so right, you did it before, you can do it again. Plus, we will be here to support you every step of the way. It will still be challenging but all you learned three years ago is still with you. What helped you to stay away from alcohol when you quit before? What worked and what didn't work for you?

It is worth giving it a try. You are probably more important to them than a drink...

Vie,
Most dont know about our condition. There is issue with the mind and also after taking that first drink, our body wants more. And when you are away from alcohol, our mind is always considering drink. Many think few days of abstinence, we will get better. In most cases yes, but few of us are wired different. So look at the past, see how we slipped back into that vicious cycle of not wanting drink and drinking and being caught in that vicious cycle. Making a firm resolution not to drink again. But again we let our guard down. Once more time and we try to start our journey again.

Hi Hors Controle and Foxman . I dont have drinking buddies anymore I cute them out but its the family that is hard . every function there is alcohol and everyone saying cmon just have one . when I was sober for the 3 years it was hard and I avoided functions but its hard in my family they get offended easily and a respect factor is high . but I also wasnt open about how the fuctions made me feel maybe they would understand more im not sure . and yes foxman its very true doesn't matter how long same vibes kick in

I had gone 3 years no drinking and somehow thought all was good. this summer i drank lots at my fams house. its normal for them and was for me.

Yes, we dont think of the consequences. You can find similar stories in the book Alcoholics Anonymous. Where a man of 30 takes a drink after 25 years of abstinence. A man who that he can mix whiskey in milk on a full stomach. And an accountant that he will just have a couple (after few months of sobriety). Unfortunately or fortunately however you take it, we may belong to a small percentage of population who cant drink safely, worse thing is, we cant stay way from it.

Welcome back vie. It is certainly hard to be around drinking people which maybe, cannot control themselves either but will not talk about it.

I have cut down on old drinking buddies. I don't have may of them but I told all of them that I am sober since September 1st. It is funny how people react. One of them invited me for dinner last Friday and he said he did not care about having a boozeless dinner BUT he never reply to let me know what time we were supposed to meet.lol

You stayed sober for 3 years and you seemed determined to quit again. During those 3 years, were you meeting your family? How were they reacting?

M
