Don123,

Please remember to think positive! You are definitely an intelligent person since you have sought help and support here online. Sharing your experience with us also attests to the fact that you acknowledge the problem. So the next steps lies in formulating a plan to start and maintain your quit. What obstacles do you foresee in doing so? What coping strategies can you use to deal with these obstacles and any other challenges that may arise? Also, what are your motivations for healthy behaviour change? Keeping these top of mind may certainly help keep your resolve tight.

Please share with us. I am very much looking forward to hearing from you.

Don123,

I'm sorry to hear you fell off the wagon recently. Congrats for making the decision to commit to a quit again, however. What will you do this time around to ensure the success of your quit?

So, i went to the concert last night and had a great time! I was in a safe situation with my husband as my support buddy! the concert lasted for about 3 hours and within that time I had almost two beers! I ended up giving my second one to my brother! i have to say, the first beer was luke warm and not refreshing plus I didnt want it in my hands because I wanted to dance. After an hour I tried a second that was colder but the taste wasn't that great to me..I sipped on it for about an hour and gave the rest to my brother. I did have a small buzz from the second one but, I found it made me more tired than wanted to continue drinking! after the show, we went to a bar/restaurant for food and drinks. There was no food there so I joined the guys for one beer....Honestly, I would have preferred water but remember I was testing myself as well and keeping track of whatI was feeling etc...We left and went to have dinner, I had a diet coke with my dinner! I did notice at one point that my brother was getting nicely toasted and I remembered that we used to have so much fun tying one on together. This time...I had no interest..in fact, I kind of said to myself "I actually acted and looked like that!" All in all, i think I did pretty good, I'm happy with myself and I have no urges or desires to drink again.I will continue to keep monotering myself and and look forward to learning more and more about me! End result...had a couple of beers and it was an 'Eh, really didn't care for it"

The problem with drinking one or two drinks is that, once we put some alcohol in our body, the physical craving kicks in and we loose our determination, inhibitions and forget about the consequences and our mind and body would need more than what you planned. You may come out good this time but subsequently your mind will pump some false sense of victory over booze and you will repeat this exercise more periodically. But soon you will realize you are back or even worse state. Sincere advice is for you to stay away from booze.

Hi Bitzy,

Congratulations on a month - it's great that you're seeing benefits of not drinking.    I can totally understand wanting to have 1 or 2 drinks at a concert, but it's not a possibility for me - once I start there's no telling when / if I'll stop.     So if you do plan on drinking make sure you have a plan to keep it to your limit.   Like maybe for me, I'd limit the amount of cash I was carrying and not bring debit / credit cards, so that I'd only have the money for a couple.   Just a thought.

Hi Bitzy,

Great to hear you are doing so well. It sounds like you are realistically cautious about having a few drinks at the concert. How do you plan to ensure you will stick to your maximum? What will be the consequences if you don't?

I feel like my head is clearer..I get to bed at a descent hour, no hangovers but most of all...no guilt over something I may have done by binge drinking!
Wednesday night I am going to a concert with my Husband and brother. I am thinking about trying to have 1 or maximum 2 beers during the show. Any suggestions? I feel like it really wasn't that terribly hard for me this past month and have learned alot about myself and my drinking patterns. I NEVER EVER want to be in a situation where I feel so horrible again. I think thats enough for me to remember not to over drink no matter how I feel!
