Hello alzel,

Welcome to our support community! You have come to a really great place. Finding this site really helped me to achieve a "better" me without alcohol. I came here really discouraged and embarassed about many things that I had done. With the help of the toolbox and members encouraging me I was able to make the decision to lead a life without alcohol included. In the beginning it was hard for me to tell everyone in my life that I was going to quit drinking because I knew they would not believe me. I had attempted previously to cut down my drinking and fell back into my old ways. I knew that even though some people doubted my efforts, I was determined to prove to everyone and myself that I could do this. And this time for good! Anyway, I know it's not easy and it requires sacrifice, determination and lots of effort. In the end, it is so worth it! My body is happy, my relationship is a lot better and my friends and family are happy with me! If you have any questions, just ask! I'm here....

Welcome to the forums Alzel!

I too was guilty of hiding my drinking from family and friends, even when I knew I needed help I was too ashamed to tell them how and what I was sturggling with. Sometimes, letting those close to you know, those that won't judge you can be helpful. Would you be comfortable letting anyone know what has been going on?

Hello Alzel,

Welcome to our support group, on here you will find others who can relate to your experiences. Use all the information no here, to help you reach your goals. Read through the program and browse the forums to gain understanding and prepare.

What are your goals? How will you go about achieving these goals? You mentioned that before you would always end up drinking a lot once a month. What was the cause of this event? Was it a social situation?

Come back often, to let us know how you are doing.

"I have tried AA but I find it too depressing and I feel that nothing really gets solved at the meetings."

True, nothing gets solved in the meetings. Its a place where I find fellow alcoholics who have overcome alcoholism. Then you pick the big book and start studying it, understand the principles behind each step and start applying in your life. Selfishness and Self-centeredness is the problem of an alcoholic. Its not the booze. So, we start looking at our character defects and try to overcome those and try to lead a purposeful life.

I have been trying to eliminate drinking from my life for the past 7 months. I have always been the one to over do it when I drink, and have been hiding my drinking. I have tried AA but I find it too depressing and I feel that nothing really gets solved at the meetings. The past seven months has seen me say I am not going to drink anymore and then have one real good bender a month. I would welcome some support

Thanks

a.
