Great to hear success stories in the face of adversity, as well.

In the face financial hardship it only makes sense to trim unwanted/unneeded things out of the budget. At $180/mo. that will make a definate impression on the lifestyle.

I realise it is part of the path to freedom to justify going back to familiar turf when extraordinary things are happening.

Does it make you feel any better? ...No.
Will it solve any problems? No.
In my case will it make things worse? Uh.... yeah! Have you seen the price of those things?

That pic was taken at Mammoth Mountain Jan 2011. Good times! I have a helmut cam video and at one point after going down a run I am totally huffing and puffing....One more reason eh?

You know how it is done, one day at a time.

I am away from my home country in the freekin middle east. Things are not stable here nowadays, social security does not even exist. I lost my job twice in last 2 years, losing it again is a constant fear. I am not where I was financially, but I manage. I don't have my family here, the only family I have is my dogs. Above all, cigarettes are cheap as peanuts and smoking is socially acceptable here. Imagine, when I tell people I quit, they ask 'why', I guess they want a solid reason like 'I am pregnant', lol.

See how lucky you are

Don't question the timing. You wouldn't be trying if you were not ready. you will be busy with the new house, physically and mentally so you can even consider it a chance even. It is all about the attitude.

If you are feeling bad now, imagine how you will feel if you fail your quit tomorrow. See, once you are aware it is hard to go back where you are, impossible to be one of those 'I don't care' smokers. The failed attempt will be haunting you. This is one of the reasons I don't listen to my junkie anyway.

You will go through all those 'birthdays and anniversaries and father-daughter dances' feeling more confident than ever, I bet you will be the most handsome father that day plus you will be smelling fantastic

No Way are you the only one watching DuneDude's back Peteg! (In fact,if that's a recent pic of the real him in that avatar there, then he's a QT

!) But I must say that you two are quite lucky to have both found your way back to SSC in perfect sync so you can raise your smokeless torches to your Quits together -It's deja vu all over again! And sooo nice to have a Quit Bud whose at the same place in the Quit to understand what you're going through. I get a kick outta you guys; some of your posts are a hoot! But like Aloha, I'm not sure I can keep up with your 'guy related' competitions; I can skip rocks with the best of 'em ya know, but I still get accused of throwing like a girl.

But I digress . . .

DuneDude: Your life is incredibly complicated right now! I hope you're able to shoehorn your family into that reno-rental as seamlessly as possible - my heart goes out to you on that! And as far as work related issues are concerned, I know your concern - my hubby has stress at his job to the point that he won't quit smoking now - he's afraid of the nicotine deprived brain cells that he calls his 'quit fog' and won't risk making a mistake at work over his perceived potential deficit! So I'm on my own with my Quit here!

But if you feel you're ready to add this Quit to your list now - just think how proud of yourself you'll be (your kids'll love U for it too!) and how much confidence in your abilities you'll gain! Just try to lick it 1 craving at at time for now - your brain'll come back soon; promise!

Remember, you can lose the smoke and not the fire! Just take a boo at Aloha - she's one non smokin' Island Firecracker just a dancin' in her undies! Have a great weekend guys!

This post is far from controversial. It's just that it's one of those posts that has many angles and not easy to respond to. All I can say is from my own quit. I quit in June of 08 right before the world came to an end. The market collapsed, housing prices plummeted, and the world seemed to be going down the drain. I knew that if I absorbed myself in all the drama of what was going around me I was not going to survive. The only way I decided to keep my quit and deal with all of life's ups and downs was to detach in the early days. I literally kept away from any negative things going on around me. I let anything happen in life happen as a non smoker and just let it be good or bad. Sometimes I just stayed in bed and did nothing. I turned off the negative press and just nurtured myself. All of the noise does go away, and when you don't take that one puff you come out the winner. Just keep the faith and believe in yourself.

I know this post is a little contraversial, but surely I'm not the only one watching Dunedude's back?? He really needs to hear from more people than me. He survived the last crave, but I'm certain your support will help get him through the next one. Give it up for Dunedude, okay?? Please??

I totally get your attitude; we're supposed to be able to vent here and ask for support. So it happens 99% of the time; that's good enough, right?

Hey Dunedad, Sounds like you have some great reasons to stay smoke free, daughters and sons and such...

You made it through this bad time, but what about the next one? Plan ahead for the next one, do some reading here and find an inspirational post, print it and keep it with you to read when you need it. Have some gum in your pocket, or a straw to suck on. Cold water, deep breaths. Spend some time here reading and you will fins more info on that and more info on why you want to be smoke free. (Like the jet fuel and 4000 other chemicals that are added to cigarettes to make you more addicted )- Don't give in, no matter what!

Remember that cravings are usually short lived and these things will help you get thru it. Smoking does not make anything better, it is such a LIE that the addiction plays with our brains, telling us we need one, that we'll feel better, but you know it won't, it never does. Focus on the reasons why you want to stay quit, take it one day at a time, or even one hour at a time if need be. You can do it, I know you can, you know you can. Yes the renos will be a great quitting project, keeping busy helps alot. Changing your routine helps alot. Coming here and posting helps alot. I am so glad you did that. Keep on trying, tomorrow is always a better day!

The support and advice you offer is inspiring. Indeed it is important to focus on the aspects of life which are in your control - smoking being one of them. Remind yourself of the pledges you've made and the reasons why you have chosen to quit.

And as Aloha said, as you are working through these present obstacles...remember to breathe, deeply!
