    Cigarettes Not Smoked

13 years ago 0 292 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I quit around the same time that Lainey did -- and I was one of those "New Years" quitters, putting out my very last cigarette (ever!) at 11:57pm on December 31, 2006.  I had smoked for over 30 years (and had tried to quit a bunch of times) but this time -- the time was right for me to quit.  Oh, and finding this site had everything to do with why I've been able to stay quit for four years!!!

If you're thinking about laying down that last cigarette before midnight next Friday night, be assured that the time is right for you.  The fact that you are here, reading this, confirms it, for me anyway.  I feel like I was meant to find this community and to meet the people here and to learn what I then could not UNlearn - the real truth about smoking and addiction.

The best advice I got when I first got to this site was this:  Any thread that has more than, say, 1000 views - open it.  Read the very first post. Keep going back, back, back in time, reading at least the original posts.  Some of the older posts got truncated in 2007 so if it looks like it got cut off in the middle, check to see if someone re-posted the original in its entirety after that point in time.

Best wishes to all on their quit journeys -- and thank you so much to those before me who laid the foundation of wisdom, insight, and humor, all of which still reside here today.

Thanks for the inspiring post Lainey and Cheers to 2010! May everyone feel comfortable posting as much as they need to and have the motivation to stick with their quits!

Members, what words of wisdom do you have to share with new people thinking of joining the site?

A new year is approaching, and I am sure there will be lots of new quitters arriving with the hopes and dreams of becoming smoke free. If you're one of them, start thinking and planning ahead to get prepared now.
It has been almost four years for me. I don't even think about smoking any more. I very, very rarely even get a craving, and yet I smoked for over 37 years. What's more, theres alot of people here who have done it just like I did, some who smoked for even 40 or 50 years. If we can do it - so can you!
What does that mean to you? It means that quitting is alot more do-able than you think. One day at a time, is the best approach. Be positive, be prepared, plan ahead for emergencies and stressful times and hang out here! All the tools you need are here, quit buddies are here, the information to educate yourself is here. NOPE is here!
What have you got to lose?
Your life, your lungs, your ability to breathe, your energy, your sleep, your health......
What have you got to gain? Everything! Quitting is a no brainer. It's challenging, its not a walk in the park, but it will teach you alot about yourself and how strong you really are!
So gather up your gumption and your committment and get ready to begin the coming new year with a new life, a smoke free one, a chance to begin anew, a chance to start over as a non smoker.
Give yourself the gift of a new Life!
