Day 3

Hey Shamenomore!!

Welcome and congratulations!  You are doing great so far!!!  There are some threads on these forums pertaining to rewards, even one that was called "low or no cost rewards".  The search function above on the right works really well!  Try using that to find threads pertaining to questions you may have!  I'll try to find it and bump it forward for you.

Remember those deep breaths and cold water!  The Program has some other great coping mechanisms, too!

Great job shamenomore
I am a few days behind but I already know that one of my rewards needs to be a detailing of my car. This used to be a smoker's car - and it stinks accordingly - yuck! Even though I tried the Fabreze and the air fresheners... not quite there yet.
And I really don't like the perpetual reminder... not to mention that my clothes keep smelling too... It's so funny when you thing about it... I smoked almost two pack a day for 24 years and the smell never bothered me. Now, after four days I realize what I've put the non-smokers through... I guess this is payback time, huh?
Keep up the good work guys! You all are so much help and such an inspiration!
Cristina

Shamenomore...

Great posting...

I messed up a little and slipped (sad moment for me to say the least) but there was something you said on your last post that got my attention.

Now whenever anyone comes in from smoking at work, I can smell them a mile away!! They were smelling me too! No More!!

I know EXACTLY what you mean by that!  That is the one thing that is making me fight so hard.  I WAS the only smoker in my house and everyone told me (even though I went outside) how bad I smelled all the time.  I could never understand it, until I quit smoking.  Now, when co-workers come back from their breaks, I know EXACTLY what my family was talking about!! P-U!  That alone is a little "push" for me!

I also have a little "helper" when the craves get bad on me...I know I read it somewhere but can't remember where, yet I do use it and it does help!  When the crave gets really bad inhale for 3 seconds then hold your breath for 3 seconds, then let it out for 3 seconds.  Repeat it 3 times!  Believe it or not, it does really help me.  Give it a shot next time and let me know how it helps!

 ? ♥Have a great day!!♥ ?

Thanks so much Dave,
7 days smoke free!!! I am so happy! The cravings still kick my butt from time to time, but I remember something I read here. Cravings do pass!! I just keep breathing and after a short time I have totally forgotten about it.
Last night I went to my sons hockey meeting (in a bar), had two drinks and didn't even think about having a smoke! I used to try and hide it from all those hockey parents because I was ashamed and embarressed!
It felt great! Funny enough I used to think I was hiding it pretty good from everyone. Now whenever anyone comes in from smoking at work, I can smell them a mile away!! They were smelling me too! No More!!
Cheers everyone!

Way to go, Shame!!!!

You are well on your way to a new smokefree life.  Rewards....these, too, are my nemesis.  What can possibly replace the old smokerettes?  Well, I found short walks, tall glasses of ice water and simply taking long deep breaths very rewarding.

Try to be healthy with any food treats....i got carried away with chocolate chip cookies and the like....now working on a 40-lbs spare tire, but this beats the heck out of the wheezing and hacking that I left behind about 9-months ago.

You are starting a great rollercoaster ride.  It will have highs and lows, with twists and turns.  But it is the best ride ever!!!!!  Post, Blog, Read, Learn.....Do whatever you must to defeat the nicodemon.  You are worth it.

Choose Life.....Better Benefits,

Dave

Thanks so much for your excellent advice!! It really helps. I am having a good day today, feeling so much better about everything. Very proud of myself. Another thing that really helps is seeing everyones success on this site. I believe we focus so much on how hard it is to quit smoking, that we start to believe it is impossible, but then I read about all these success stories and it incredibly inspiring.

Congrats on hitting day 3!  Great job!  You can reward yourself for passing each crave, or getting through each day.  Watching a movie, playing a game, having some broccoli.  Your husband might not understand, but he will appreciate the end result.  Make it a big deal, it is one of the toughest things and one of the most rewarding things you can ever do!

Time and money were an issue with me and rewards, so I choose simple things.  A long soak and a good book in the tub after the kids went to bed with some new bath oils; some spiced tea to enjoy; a trip to the park; meeting a friend for coffee; popcorn and a dvd of a movie I wanted to see....
Doesn't have to be expensive, just a little something for your efforts.  You deserve it!
Congratulations on quitting!

Thanks everyone for your support! Can you give me some ideas for rewards, I am drawing a blank, as a busy working mom we don't award ourselves much do we? The only thing I can think of is rewarding myself with food. I really don't want to do that.
Also, any tricks for when it gets really hard, and I can't seem to remember why I wanted to do this? So far I just come to the computer and read about how happy and inspired everyone is. I hate feeling sorry for myself, but that is kind of where I've been today.
Cheers
Shamenomore
