Hi Friends,

Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. I had no intention of giving in to temptation...didn't and won't but I just needed to vent and there you all were lending your support.

I guess these "things" that confront us in life are all part of the test...life isn't fair! We get hurt and we mend.

I watched Michael Jackson's Memorial Service yesterday, truly moving and beautiful. Michael's brother sang Michael's favorite song "Smile". I think I was meant to hear the words and I would like to share them...

Smile though your heart is aching,
             Smile even though it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky,
             You'll get by,
If you smile through your pain and sorrow,
             Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through,
              If you just smile.

Beautiful words! Today I remain smoke-free and have no intention of faltering! I am going to see what I can do to help a senior in our apartment who is moving...it always makes me feel better if I can help someone else.

Thanks again for listening.

I get what you mean, Ron. When I use to visit my relatives, I stayed in a hotel. I mentioned that recovery strategy in a meeting one morning and it really caught on.

Trilium,
Yep we have all been there.  You reach a milestone, it's super great and exciting.  Then what can follow is a little tough patch. Maybe a holiday where you see family members and wow, triggers come when we least expect them.  I still remember I quit on the 17th of June last year and my first holiday was the 4th of July and I got to spend a weekend with my sister.  Well I won't go into the details but that was my first time with family where I knew I was being tested and for gods sake I was not going to have my sister ruin my quit. I quietly took a couple walks and got through the situation.  And guess what  I just did the same thing this 4th and it was so much better a year later.  Same person, almost the same confrontrations... but time has helped tremendously. Keep up the great quit and remember that nobody is worth ruining your quit for.  Ron

Trillium, I too have been tempted a few times these past weeks. I remind myself of what Rock said, Smoking won't help. I also remind myself of the fact that one cigarette will be too many and a thousand will not be enough. Not to mention I can't afford them. Those three things seem to be keeping me clean. Being the fighter, I also tend to not allow people to take things away from me. I ask myself if I'm going to hand my quit to that person or situation?
