Hi Dave, Just seen your excellent post.

You are so right we really do need to remember to be grateful that we have quit

one of the most powerful drugs there is. It doesn't matter how long we are quit be it

a day or a year quiting this addiction has to be one of the hardest thing we will ever

do. So I suppose we are allowed to be sad and unsure on occasions as long as we stay

strong. Thanks again.

Oh, Dave I hope you have kicked that committee to the street. They just chatter and chatter and chatter. When I am in my "right" mind the one thing that helps me A LOT it to write down 10 things I am grateful for. They don't have to big things, just 10. Maybe you could be grateful that you can use a computer, or that you have eyes to see with, get the idea. You know once you pull yourself into gratitude there is no room for self pity absolutely no room. Try it and keep trying until the chatter boxes leave.

This is exactly the kick in the XXXXL pants I needed!

Eye opening! I've really been struggling with the post-quit weight gain issue. Looking at this article, it's easy to see that I felt sorry for myself. "Oh poooooor meeeeeee. No cigarettes anymore, so I deserve to eat a candy bar (or two) and pass the Hagen Daz" I was popping the popovers and wallowing in self pity.

This is valuable insight into my behavior. Like Jan said this provides a new way to approach dieting. :)

I hope things get better for you soon. Many quitters here have gotten the blues, blahs whatever around the three month mark. I sure did - no motivation at all with five radio channels on in my head. Very much like you are describing.... watching not living. So not "myself", more like a shell of myself. There is some really good research on the web about how nicotine rewires your brain to uptake the nicotine instead of naturally produced dopomine ( or something like that) and can sometimes mask issues. It takes some time for your body to heal and correct the pathways. Check out some sites on the web or dig around in some old posts here about nicotine and the brain... pretty interesting.

Great post Dave.......We're all at some point in there.......

REMEMBER.....you are NOT alone with those voices and feelings. I'm able to do my Crosswords in the mornings now.....some days better than others because the concentration ability is slowly returning. It's a toss-up every morning.

Without this place and you people I have no doubt I would have been smoking again.

I do feel a special kinship with you and those that are a week or two ahead of me in their Quits. Much of what I was able to fight off came from reading where you and they were.....I owe you big for that.......

It all made me realize how important it is to support everyone here in their Quits. That's why I post now. Hopefully whoever needs it will use something I say and Keep their Quit by getting through a rough spot. Thanks for showing me that and thanks for being open about your Quit........

Thank you for your wonderful post. I'm trying hard to avoid selfpity. For me it is really important. If I allow myself into that state, I will fail miserabily. I would be doubtful of my decision to quit and I don't want that.It would make this quitting process harder.

And yes, sometimes the days don't add up as fast as I want.I'm grateful for so many things in my life! I've been blessed.So I have to give back in the same way. The more you receive, the more you should give back. That's what my parents tought me.

I'm grateful because I found this site, with wonderful people. We can save our lives with the power of sinergy and with God's help.
