Hey Cltisci!!!

Hello and welcome to the SSC!  It looks like you are all set to go, but I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions!

1   Set up your quit meter and other information in the "My Profile" box above.  You can also have additional information displayed by clicking on the "Support Group Options" on the right hand side of the main FORUMS page.  Seeing your quit meter displayed daily is a great motivational tool!!!

2   Read and post and read some more!!!  There is a wealth of information here in these forums and knowledge is power!  You will need as much knowledge as you can get to maintain continuous victories over the nico-demon!  Got a question?  Either post and ask or use the search function...  the search functions works really well!!!

3   If you ever get to the point where you think that you are about to cave...  Post for help here and wait for 5 replies!!!  By the time you get your 5th reply, your crave will be gone and you will be stronger for winning another battle!!

These are just a few tips that I thought you and all of the new quitters could use at the beginning of your quit!!!  Oh...  one more thing...  keep telling yourself  N. O. P. E. ... Not One Puff Ever!!!  Follow this little saying and you will be successful!!!

Hi again cltisci.......Great to see you ready to go........and you are so right about making this about you.  It has to be.  Your kids will hold you to it and it won't be long till they'll be so proud of their non-smoking mom!!
Go under "my profile" and say yes to showing your Quit-Meter in your posts.....that way we can all see how GREAT you are doing.
One more thing......rest helped me and a lot of others in the first week.  Flush your system of the nicotine by drinking lots of water and after 3-4 days it stops being a physical addiction.  Then it becomes mental and you learn to "talk yourself through" some of the craves.
Post, yell, rant.....whatever you need here.....we did it....and we'll be here for you.
you can do this!!!

I want to thank you all for your words of wisdom. I have decided to move my quit day to tomorrow. My last day of work is today... I have known since Christmas that I would be getting laid off, so it is not a big stressful thing for me. I am positive, I will beat this, I know it won't be easy and I feel for the people around me for the next week .  I am making this all about me. Laid down the law to my smoker husband. I have already told everyone that I am quitting. My kids will hold me to it. I will probably be on here 10 out of 24 hours a day to get through the first week, but I look forward to being free of this addiction. So much that I am quitting earlier than I thought. Thank you again and you will hear from me sooner than later.

Citisci:

Congratulations on your decision to quit! Be positive! You don't have to fear anything; there is no downside to this decision. But you really need to quit. The quit is all about you. You have to stay posit5ive. You are not leaving a friend behind, you are breaking apart of your worst enemy. If you are running away from your slaver, shouldn't you be happy?

You have to desire to quit. You have to make a nonnegotiable decision to stop smoking. From the bottom of your heart! If we can do it, you can do it too. Must of us have gone trough failed quitting experiences. But this is a positive thing. On those previous quits we learned a lot about our own addiction. So you should be not be afraid of quitting! It's a challenging but empowering experience. And you have us. You have great counselors and great fellow quitters that had made all the difference for me! You deserve to live a smokefree life.

Like Rock, I want to recommend you the Allen Carr's book: SAtop Smoking the Easy Way. It gives you a positive approach to the quitting process.

Read and post, it helps a lot. I wasnt to share with you sdmall things that had helpede me a lot:

ice water

non sugar added fruit juices

celery and carrot sticks

straws cut the size of a cigarrette

stress ball

plenty of rest

hot showers

classical music

Enjoy the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to be POSITIVE

Hey Citisci! Some great advice has been handed already, I just wanted to add one thought. Read everything you can here and 'pump' yourself up for this with self talk (poitive affirmations) because whether or not you believe in that kind of thing, it really does work! Coming at this quit in a positive attitude makes a big difference. So lose the fear! There is nothing to fear. You can do this, just as many of us have before you. Look to the inspirational thought of the day, it is always uplifting!
Prepare yourself by reading and getting all your tools ready, and you will breeze right on through!
Congratulations on deciding to quit!
