Hi Citisci, welcome to SSC, you know we are all a little afraid of failing when we embark on this quit, and thats because we know just how strong this addiction is. But take strength from all of us who have succeeded and some of us have had life long chronic smoking habits and were terrified it was too late.
It wasn't and even better news is that with help and support it is do-able, and you made the first step by joining us here and including us in your journey.
So welcome aboard, read and post and then tell us how you're doing.

Hi citisci,

My only suggestion would be to go at this with a more positive attitude. Insead of, " I'm scared to death of failure," say, " I can and will do this!" If you really want to quit you will. Everyone who has been there will be here to support you when you take the plunge! I promise it will be worthwhile!

Citisci, Welcome to the SSC!  You've completed all of the exercises under "my program", so you're off to a good start!  Are you using a NRT like chantix or the patch or are you going cold turkey?  I would search for these types of topics to see how other members used them.  Read, read, and read some more.  Many people like Alan Carr's book, look at some of the posts from Marivi and others who read his book.  Have you put together a reward system to celebrate each passed cravings, each smoke free day, and each smoke free week?  For me, I told everybody I knew that I was going to quit so they could help keep me accountable, but in the back of my mind this quit was all about ME!!!  Nobody else!  I want you to say to yourself "This quit is all about ME!!!"  I threw away all of my ashtrays, cigarette packs, lighters, etc. when I first quit.  I had somebody clean the house and car.  I rearranged furniture where I used to smoke.  I read what seemed like EVERY posting here.  I hope these suggestions help you to become FREE!!!  We're all rooting for your success!!!

cltisci, welcome
I'm on my 4 day of being smoke-free, yeah. The advice I can give you is be prepared and log on and post when you need to. The people here will give you the encouragement to continue the fight. It has helped me tremendously. Everyone here is fighting the same "dragon". Best of luck, hope to hear from you on Saturday!

I may be jumping the gun here, but my scheduled quit date is March 27th, this coming Saturday. I am looking for any advice you all can give me to prepare for this day. I am scared to death of failure. I want to avoid that at all costs. I will probably depend on this site very strongly to help me out. I am so glad I found it. I have completed all the exercises recommended and am counting down to Saturday! I want to be free!
