Just to clarify for anyone who is looking for books:

Moore is Dark NightS (plural) of the Soul

Thomas Merton and St. John of the Cross are Dark Night (singular) of the Soul

Want to make sure everyone gets their book of choice...

Nonic,
Awesome post.  You always make me think and appreciate the joy life brings me.  I've always felt the same way about watching things grow...it really is a miracle to behold the tender green shoots uncurling from the dark earth.  Love is often found in places we never expected it to be.

Enjoy your flowers this summer!

Deb, thanks for the info on Moore.

Debby,

That's wonderful!  Members, what kind of hobbies or activities have you taken up as part of your quit?

Hi, my activity would be my cross stitching.

I am always amazed that by just sewing a few crosses together with different colour threads, that after a while (and a lot of crosses) a picture starts to form.

At the moment I am doing a native american child. I have completed the face, so everytime I pick it up to do some more, the first thing I see is a smiling child looking back at me.

Also I do a bit of reading, as when I am doing this I can forget about all my worries and stresses also those deadly white sticks and go into a different world and just relax.

Thanks for that information.  I never knew anything about that Thomas Moore.  I will certainly have a look at his work...

Moore is an Jungian analyst.... Jungian psychoanalysis is one of the few systems that includes the soul as part of the client's work and it is the system I work with.  It also includes working with the Shadow which is that part of ourselves that we deny because we believe it is ugly and bad.  Working with the Shadow can mean wading around in the muck of depression and finding it's purpose.  Everything is there for a reason-- and usually a very good one.  It is very contextually rich, and I think very useful.

Anyway, enough about that.  Must get ready to go put it into practice :)  Another work day approaches with infinite possibilities......

Except for the no smoking thing.  That is non-negotiable.

Deb:

No I have never read any of this.  When you said Thomas Moore, I thought you meant the Irish poet.  For the life of me I could not remember any of his work having to do with a Dark Night of the Soul.  Sorry I was being dense, but I will have a look at this Thomas Moore...I do hope that you are better today...
