Hi Brelaine,
Your doing great so far and keep up the great effort your doing to better yourself.
Just to add what others said, one thing I did when I first quit was to distract, distract, and distract again.  Time is very slow when you first quit so I did everything I would to keep busy.  I did much more physical activities everyday, it's amazing how your mood can change after going on a nice long walk. I also went to the bookstore and found really interesting things to read about and would take time to just sit and read.  I also went to a Korean spa that had those hot rooms where you sweat like a pig and then would drink tons of water. Anything to make you relax just a bit..  If you don't have that then a bath with maybe something on hand can work the same.  The main thing is to find distractions that are your new substitutes for when you smoked.  It actually can be a great time to pick up new hobbies and explore new things in your life, it sure did for me.

Brelaine,

Sorry to hear today has been hard for you. Perhaps rewarding yourself for getting through today would help? Maybe a nice cup of tea or a warm bath would help? You deserve it!

Members, any other advice for Brelaine?

You are doing great!!
The first four days are a test to your determination! But you made a free and educated choice to break free from the nasty smoking addiction! All the physical discomfort you are experiencing now is the result of years of nicotine abuse!! Your body is healing right now.
Take one craving at a time! In four days you will be nicotine free! So hang on, you can do it becaus I can do it. Drink lots of ice water and non sugar added fruit juices!
Believe me, It will get better!!!!
Cry, sleep, eat, yell, run, do whatever you need to do, but please
DON'T SMOKE!!!

Brelaine, glad you didn't give up!  You really can do this!  Are you rewarding yourself?  Take a long bath or showers!   Have a tea party!  Eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream!  or a pint of fat free/sugar free/carb free frozen yogurt!  Take your dogs for another long walk!  Just imagine how much healthier your dogs will be without the second hand smoke!  Everybody will be happier and healthier!  Just take it one day at a time, and you'll be fine!

Brelaine I know that reset button feeling too. One of the reasons I stayed quit was that I didnt want to face those bizarre early days again I felt so lost and so strange. Remind yourself how you felt after walking the dogs- not good was it?? that feeling prompted you to start your quit earlier than planned so well done you.
Keep focused, keep positive, there's a ton of support for you here too.

Hello brelaine,

You are absolutely right about hitting the reset switch and you would have to endure this all over again one day if you retreat. Would you like to know of one self-talk treatment I tell myself all the time during the cravings and the hours I want a smoke?

I ask myself:

Question - Did you smoke as a child?

Answer - No, and I was happy and healthy!

I am not sure if this could work for you or others, but it is one way to trick your mind back into thinking you can be a non-smoker once again. As you was born without a cigarette so you do not need it to live. In addition, I must say these little devils have there claws in pretty good. I think of myself as a intelligent individual and a fairly strong minded person, but "WHOA," these smokes have brain washed me into thinking they are actually good for me.... ........

Stay Strong

We are here day and night!!

Hey Brelaine! Check out the program if you haven't, there are lots of things to help. Deep breathing, cold water.
Candy, straws, gum, licorice, chocolate, coming here and posting. You made a decision that will bring you so much in the way of your health, keep that in mind. Self talk (affirmations) help alot too! You can do this! Not One Puff Ever!
