Thanks for the support. I know you're all right and yet I also inhale deeper when I pass them by. Well, I'm not even a week down so it will get better. Just for the laughs, and 'cause it really does say how I feel, the lyrics to one of the best songs about smoking ever... It just tells it like it is (or for us, WAS!)

I sometimes have those thoughts, too. I wish I was with them smoking. I don't allow those thoughts to stew much...because then I would join them

I know me and the addict too well.... I can smell their smoke from a good distance and actually catch myself breathing deeper when I pass them. But you know what? I can breathe deeper now that I've quit. While smoking I could not. Sometimes my memories of the old smoking self are good, but I am reminded of the bad daily when I now begin panting while climbing stairs or have to secretly suck on an inhaler to catch my breath after a little exertion. Be careful not to romantisize your smoking self. There is NOTHING romantic about it!

With the first step comes honesty and you my friend have done that. Now that being said I have thrown away more than my share of quits because I let the MONSTER convince me that I like smoking. Yes, that first one was alway good because it made me dizzy and it felt good and once in awhile I thought it tasted good. Then they became a chain around my neck. I could not do anything without knowing where and when I could smoke. Yes, they are good; they make you a slave, they make you smell, they make you cough, they make you short of breath, you lose out on conversations, and they steal your freedom. That is what smoking does for me. You see my friend I lose sight of that and I smoke thinking that is just what I want and in reality all I want is my freedom. We have today and today I choose not to smoke and I will wait until morning and make another commitment, how about you?

I can relate with how cigarettes helped with suppressing the appetite.

This past Saturday night, I went to a small corner bar here in Philadelphia for a benefit. No smoking allowed in the bar. and when I left there were about 8 people outside standing underneath the awning all smoking,,,it was COLD, and a wet snow falling. I just felt good not to be one of them.

Sometimes I like the smell, and sometimes I don't.

Api I know where you are coming from- I used to love smoking at one time, and today when we saw the huddled frozen smokers my husband (who quit with me) pretended to follow our friend who went to smoke. I said 'could you' and he said I could! Me? I couldn't, not at this time- towards the end of my smoking life I began to hate the habit and everything that went with it. I began to be ashamed of being a smoker it is so anti social here, so frowned upon. I hated too the fact that it was bleeding me of not only money but my health too. And so for me the negs outweighed the habit I had once enjoyed.

BUT I never say never, who knows what may drive us back to pick up the habit again. I would never be so cocky or complacent to say I wont ever do it again. I treat every day as any addict does one day at a time.

i'm with you 100% , i loved smoking , at least the good parts of it . and let's face it , there are good parts or no one would do it.

but i had to weight the benefits vs. the negatives and make a choice.

i'm damn glad i chose to quit. because now , after investing this much time in my quit , i've got the benefits fo quitting , and i don't miss the good parts of smoking anymore.

a total reversal of how i used to be.

As I think about the reasons I have quit, as I review my list which I posted to my desk and put in my wallet that is encouraging me, all the things I am working for, nothing is addressing something that is my major issue. I think it is the biggest block, the reason I have backslid and, if I don't make it this time, will be the reason I go back....

I really enjoyed smoking. I like the taste, I like the way it makes me feel, I like the fact that it suppresses my appetites. I enjoyed smoking. I cannot state it enough. (Note the use of the past tenses!!! I am working at peoples!) All my Craves are about the fact that I dug smoking, not just the physical addiction

I am trying to allow delayed gratification overcome the instant gratification. I am thinking about the money, about the health benefits (and I have MS, so it is very important for me, beyond all the usual negatives!) about how, now that my sense of smell is returning, how bad my apartment stinks.

Yet, again, I really LIKED smoking! Past tense people, past tense

I am not sure if anyone else has read Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point. I really recommend it. He talks about how there is a correlation between alleviating depression and nicotine. I am on Lexapro, plus my MS Meds and MS itself 'cause depression... So it is all a rich tapestry....

What I am asking is, is this a problem for anyone else? I read peoples posts about looking at the smokers huddled in the cold, and asking themselves how that once could have been them. I look at them, and wish I could still join them.

Man, This STINKS!
