Yep Lil I held my breath too, thinking that was it, but good on you for managing to get through last night, cos that was a close call I could tell.
LIli, yes it would be easier just to throw the towel in, it really would, but I know somewhere down the line you'd be back because you want this thats so obvious- one of my things is the fact that I just could not do those first days again, I just couldnt, I felt like I was on another planet. And hon, dont talk to me about weight, how about 2 stone in 6 months!! but I will deal with that, I've always been  slim, and my hubby (2.5 stone) so we are really mortified at this weight gain, but you know what, we dont smoke, and the weight well, we'll deal with that- soon.

I laughed about your family thinking nine days in you'd cracked it because you know what, I once talked to a smoker who'd been quit two weeks, and I thought, two weeks, shes got that in the bag, if I could go two days without smoking I reckon I would have cracked it- hmmm its not that easy is it?? and I was a smoker!! so you can imagine what a tough time non smokers have understanding a quit!

Hey but hang in there kid, we are all rooting so hard for you, I for one, really want you to do this (partly for my own selfish reasons you make me laugh so much I want you to stick around) keep the faith!!

Hey Lil, how u doin today? I know what you mean with the 10 yr old.  I have a 12yr old and a 9yr old , both boys.  I have been biting their sweet little heads off since the quit began and they look at me like I'm the exorcist.  But, I did explain to them before hand that I would be crabby.  I also get what you said about your family being done with it.  Most of my family besides my dad doesn't smoke and never have smoked, so they are like what is wrong with you after a week now.
They don't understand the concept of being addicted to something.  You just have to overlook them.  That's why I rely on people here so much, because my family supports me for about 3 days and then they don't think another thing about it.  But, u try to take their coffee away and see what happens!

Hang in there and stay close. It is your turn to be selfish for a change, this is the most important thing you will ever do in your life!!  Stick with it and try to explain to your daughter why it is so important, it may keep her from ever trying it later on.

Hey Lil!!!

First of all, congratulations for making it through Hell Week!!!  I just want to let you know that you HAVE gotten through the worst of it!!!  It's really all down hill from here!!!  Keep telling yourself that over and over again and pretty soon your brain will really start thinking that!!!  Oh, and keep it all positive!!!  If you have a Positive Mental Attitude about this whole quit thing, it really will be much easier on you!!!   Keep your reasons for quitting list close!!   Read it and think about it everytime that nicodemon starts clawing away at you!!!

Here are a couple of ideas that helped me through my first couple of weeks!  First of all, I was on this site a whole lot when I first quit!  While at work, I'd make or repair a piece and then I'd see what was going on in all the forums.  If  I had a question, I'd do a search on here and read and learn and read some more!!!  When fighting this addiction, knowledge is power... The more knowledge you have, the more power you will have to fight that nicodemon off!!!  There is a wealth of information here, so make the best of it!!!  Then, read posts from your fellow quit buddies here and pass that information and support on to them!!!  It really helps and it will also DISTRACT you!!!

Another thing I did was visualize this battle going on in my mind....  Me  versus that evil, rotten, sickening, stinking, nicodemon!!!  I used to visualize myself all clad in bright shining armor with a brilliant sword, swinging and hitting and swinging again and taking gouges out of that son of a piece of crap!!!  I thought about that and threw in a few deep breaths and in no time I had a pretty severe craving under control!

Most of all, you just have to keep in your mind that you really want this quit a helluva lot more than you want a cigarette!!!   If you click on my name and read my quit smoking pledge, you'll understand that I had so much determination at the beginning of my quit and I was not going to let ANYTHING get in the way of my success!!!  Crave the quit and you'll be successful!!!

Hang on, Lil!!!!  This journey does get easier.  Take each day one crave at a time and don't look too far ahead.  Walk, drink iced water, deep breathing, watch tv, nap, knit...well, you get the picture.  And post here often, I found it really helped me in the beginning of my quit.  YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS!!!!!

Cheers,
Jan

Hi lil!  Sounds like a rough night.  I was holding my breath while I read your post and was able to sigh in relief when I got to your last few sentences.  Sounds like you recognise and acknowledge those stressors and see them for just what they are---fuel for junkie thinking. You sound pretty normal to me.  In fact, you put into words the exact same thoughts that run through my head several times a day....  Keep strong.  It'll get better.

Hi Lil......

Hope the new day finds you feeling better.  Not sure what to say except I was exactly where you are at for a while and it finally turned a corner.  You have a lot of folks here cheering for you.  Keep venting.   Ranting and raving here saved many a quits I'm sure.  Good wishes to you today.

Hi Lil,

Not too much to offer that hasn't already been said.  You have great friends here to rely on.  The only thing that I can add is despite what your daughter may say she's going to want her mom around.  This time of your life is about you and no one else so the rest of them will have to suck it up for now.  Things will get better and when they do everyone will be so happy you stuck it out.  Take care.  Your doing great.
