Way to go Kurt.  I know how hard that must have been for you.  My hubby smoked for the first two months that I quit, you just have to learn how to ignore it I guess.  He has now quit too, but some days are still tough, there are a lot of smokers where we work.  (they stink!)  You hang in there, you can do this and we will be here for you when you need it.

Well, thanks for the kind words and advice everyone. I made it through yesterday but almost lost it this morning. There, a mere six feet away sat my wife's cigarettes. My brand too. But, I somehow managed to tough it out. Feeling somewhat disconcerted today; everything just doesn't seem quite "right." More than a bit ornery too. Baby ducks might be well advised to steer clear of me until hell week is over . Have to admit that I overall feel physically better though. Very little coughing this morning and I can already take deeper breaths. And look, I saved $4 !!!

I'm gonna move over to the "Forum for New Users and General Discussion" now. Again, thanks for the support everyone.

Welcome to the SSC Kurt and congratulations on deciding to kick the habit!

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Also, as I'm sure you know, it would probably benefit your quit if you ensure that the two smokers in your house are supportive of your quit, and help you along the way.

Good luck & check back soon!

way to go kurt , let's whip this thing !

tip #1 drink lots of ice water.
tip #2 eat lots of snacks , if you don't want a lkittle weight gain make 'em healthy. i used raw carrots , pickles etc.
tip #3 practice really deep breathing , when your cravings peak this will help.
tip #4 just focus on today , don't project and your days will pile up.
tip #5 watch a motivational movie , mine was ''rocky II'' .
tip #6 convince yourself that no matter what happens , no matter how tough it gets , you're gonna win , not cigarretes , and then compete hard.

we're all right here for you.

Hi Kurt and Welcome.   I smoked close to 45 years.   I have tried a few times over the years, or cutting down.. (ah yeah that helps..lol)   well I used Chantix this time and it worked.

I actually wanted to stay on it longer but I had some trouble with side effects.  I took it for around 60 days....

I can;t say I m strong.. What keeps me "quit" so far is  the Memory of the first 30 days.  I really DO NOT want to repeat them.  The 2nd thing is a post like yours.... the junkie in my mind says... just one puff.. one puff wont hurt, one is ok...

Then I come and find a post such as yours.. I had quit for a year or ___________ and I took one puff, I thought one would be ok...

I had to admit t myself that when I started smoking I created an addict...   and it will always be in my mind..

I have to remember.... N O P E  I have threatened to have it tattooed on my arm.... or ankle...

someplace i can LOOK at it quickly when needed...

We are here to encourage and cheer you on.   Watching my stats and the friendliness here has made this quit "doable" for me.

I know if I "screwed" up  I would be forgiven/understood... bur I don;t want to set my quit meter back to zero... I like seeing the numbers.. I remember being a newbie and I was soooo envious of 20, 30 ,50 days.. and then oh wow LOOK  triple digits....

I have decided it is MUCH easier not smoking.. I;m not checking to see if I have smokes, do I have enough when I leave the house... oh where am I going to be able to smoke.. do I have mints, spray.. so I don't smell like smoke.  Oh No   so and so is goin in my car,, and it reeks of smoke.

Now my husband says are you ready to go... grab my purse and I am ready.....

You did it once.. you can do it again.   we are here .. so when you crave come yell HELP,   wai t for at least 3 to 5 replies....

don't forget to rewrd yourself..

Welcome
Bonnie
