Islandgirl You are always so kind to me, thank you for your wonderful words. During my quit I found that writing in my little journal helped alot. These days I find I am always seeking clarification about this, that and the other thing. The best ways for me to do that is to put it down in either prose or poetry or music. I think I would be quite content to sit and write all day. This addiction is so hard on people, I do not like to see people struggle so with it, simply because I know the desperation and frustration that comes with it. But I do know that we started smoking for a reason and once we wrap our minds around that, we can begin to find new ways to deal with those reasons. Stay well... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 449 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,470 Amount Saved: $4,714.50 Life Gained: Days: 83 Hrs: 16 Mins: 27 Seconds: 56

anxious1 Well I'd say you are doing a fine job of hanging in there. If you can do 100 + days, you are well on your way. For me it has been about developing different coping mechanisms. I know very well that I was an emotive smoker. It was a kind of therapy session for me that I no longer need. Alot of this is pure behavior motification, learning how to deal with stress in other ways that are less damaging to our physical being. I think that is why the idea of "just saying no" dosen't work to well. We need to re-educate ourselves about ourselves and re-integrate ourselves into being who we where before we stumbled upon cigarettes. We started smoking for very real reasons. Once we get a handle on those reasons, we have a clue about how to make it better. Besides, even though we must quit for ourselves, I got a feeling that those three other folks in that picture are a great motivator as well. Stay well, you have alot to quit for... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 448 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,440 Amount Saved: $4,704.00 Life Gained: Days: 83 Hrs: 14 Mins: 51 Seconds: 45

blue cloud Look at you now, getting close to that year milestone. I know it has been difficult for you, but you really are a fighter. It is funny, I don't really think of smoking anymore. I never thought that I could say that with hand on heart, but it is true. The very idea of lighting one and drawing it in seems unthinkable now. But as you say we must always be aware. It is after all one major addiction and even though it seems a distant memory, I know full well the power cigarettes had over me for more years than I'd fancy admitting. Keep on going you are doing wonders for yourself... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 448 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,440 Amount Saved: $4,704.00 Life Gained: Days: 83 Hrs: 14 Mins: 47 Seconds: 52

moss It is always a pleasure to hear from you. I remember when you first started and how difficult it was for you. If there are categories of smokers I would say you and I are in the same one. But I do believe that you are getting a good handle on it now. It really is a learning experience because we must teach ourselves how not to smoke. I often wonder if it is more difficult to teach ourselves how not to do something or to teach ourselves how to do something. But it is a testament to the plasticity (sp) of the human spirit. We are actually teaching ourselves new behaviors. There is a great deal of hope in that. Stay well, I am glad that you are making such great progress, you should be very proud of yourself... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 448 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,440 Amount Saved: $4,704.00 Life Gained: Days: 83 Hrs: 14 Mins: 46 Seconds: 30

This is great Nonic, and so true, at least for me. I feel like I am in the middle of that bridge and it is swaying back and forth, my arms holding tight to either side of the rope. Right now, I don't care if I get blisters or splinters, I am hanging on while it sways. Especially now, that I know I can make it to the other side. Thanks for the inspiration, I love it and need it.
