Sometimes in past quits I've hit the wall and relapsed. It always started with just one...thinking I could just have one, well maybe one a week, well maybe one a day and so on. The moments where i had that fatal slip, I really couldn't think straight I really didn't care about why I quit, or how it affected the people around me, or how bad it made me smell - I was crazed for a smoke and that was that. Terrible place to be. This is the longest I've ever gone without a smoke...and yes, I had a crazed moment or two, and took drastic measures with myself. Such as splashing ice cold water on my face or taking a cool bath - anything that would shock me a bit and bring me back to my senses quickly (some people use an elastic band on their wrist and give it a bit of a snap) I wish you well, remember cigarettes travel in packs My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 532 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,280 Amount Saved: $10,640.00 Life Gained: Days: 49 Hrs: 6 Mins: 40 Seconds: 14

Hi DJ, I an pretty new here.. On my 10th day and that is HUGE for me. I see the puppies in the picture.. One of my reasons is quitting for my dogs.. I see you have sunshine and golf listed. Just think how much easier it will be out golfing.. you won't be out of breath.. and who knows .. you may be the next Tiger Woods. I have wanted to slip... but I keep thinking ... N O P E like any addict thats all it will take.. one puff and I will be back to almost a pack a day in no time. I have been putting my cigarette money away.... look at it building up instead of burning it, then having to clean the dirty ashtrays.... Find your incentive ... and keep repeating it. This is no cake walk.... but like others I sure don't want to go back to the beginning. DJ, might this be milestone related? As smokers, we were so used to rewarding ourselves for every little thing with a cigarette. Sometimes we set certain milestones in this quitting journey, and then when they come, without us consciously knowing why, we all of a sudden Want a Cigarette! Badly! Maybe approaching, then reaching that 30 day mark has you doing that? If this rings true (and I know it might not), then what you need to do is reward yourself with something else. Something special, but not necessarily costly. Just something that makes you smile bigtime. Cause you've earned it. DJ, I'd just like to try and add a small tip to the GREAT advice here in this thread. There's a post Aloha bumped for me when I was going through a bad patch a month or so ago called "A LITTLE HELP FOR MY FRIENDS". It's in the forum for new users + general discussion, page 2. It helped me a lot. Good luck with your quit. Be strong - it's so worth it. DJ, Perhaps you need to recommit to yourself, and take a good hard look at the reason you want a smoke free life. Toss any cigs you have, and give it a good hard go. You can do this, we're all here cheerin' you on! Hey DJ i just re-did what i did in the beginning when i feel that "slipping" feeling. RE-read the tools and resources. I constantly look at my quit meter and know i never want to see that go back to zero again. I am too proud of it. And come here as much as you can, as well as find something that will keep your mind busy so that you aren't thinking of all that negative stuff, like smoking. Hi DJ. Well, get rid of any tobacco in the house and throw out cigarette lighters and ashtrays and any and all paraphernalia to do with smoking (I say sling the ashtrays because you don't want people to smoke in your house ever again, do you?) As Terry says, through Sparky, by way of all the other enlightened members here, in so many words: "Decide and then do what you decide...." There are no "white" mistakes when you're smoking again and again for days running. I'm rooting for you DJ - you already have a month of freedom... don't lose that by giving in to the cravings... You and I started our quit at the same time... let's tough it out together...No more slips Patrick My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/18/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 800 Amount Saved: $360.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 1 Mins: 49 Seconds: 39

DJ, I have said this before and someone probably said it to me so here goes again, Once you know, you know. When your smoking your thinking about quitting. When your quitting your thinking about smoking. The thinking about smoking will go away. the thinking about quitting will take away your self asteem.....and in some cases your life.
