From Wikipedia: "In a support group, members provide each other with various types of nonprofessional, nonmaterial help for a particular shared burdensome characteristic. The help may take the form of providing relevant information, relating personal experiences, listening to others' experiences, providing sympathetic understanding and establishing social networks. A support group may also provide ancillary support, such as serving as a voice for the public or engaging in advocacy. Support groups maintain interpersonal contact among their members in a variety of ways. Most groups have traditionally met in person in group sizes that allowed conversational interaction. Support groups also maintain contact through printed newsletters, telephone chains, internet forums, and mailing lists. Some support groups are exclusively online. Membership in some support groups is formally controlled, with admission requirements and membership fees. Other groups are "open" and allow anyone to drop in at an advertised meeting, for example, or to participate in an online forum. ... Since at least 1982, the Internet has provided a new venue for support groups. Diverse remote networking formats have allowed the development of both synchronous groups, where individuals can exchange messages in real time, and asynchronous groups, where members who are not connected to a network at the same time can read and exchange messages. It is not difficult to find an online support group, but it is hard to find a good one. The details and the players of what happened here this weekend aren't really important anymore because what began as something having to do with the moderators of this group has turned into us attacking one another like wolves. The truth is, the moderators of this group do a good job moderating this group and not letting it slip into what it's slipped into this weekend, and if that's all they do for us, then it's enough because the help that we get here comes from one another. How you quit, why you quit, and how hard it and emotional it is for you to quit aren't important and aren't reasons for us to be bickering at one another. Here is my message to all quitters. Please hang onto your quit. Don't let ego and petty foolishness get in your way. I have been able to keep my quit and I now feel that three+ years into it, I'm pretty safe. I've spent a lot of time helping folks, but now I've been told by Mr. Ed to butt out. So that's what I am doing. I wish you all the very best. There is a lot of great positive information out there to help you quit. Please use it.
