I guess the problems related to quitting have also been covered many times. Should we stop the discussions Kiwi, so your hair doesn't curl any more. I thought that the purpose of the forum was in fact to discuss, whether or not the content of the discussion is to your agreement or not. Deck, you said: Does anybody really believe that tobacco manufacturers really do all in their power to repair the damages caused by their product? Nope~~no more so than the pharmacetucial companies want us to get well. They think we should continue on their meds till the day we die. I do think that however you do it; whatever works for you, is the right way to stop smoking....the stop part is the important part of the journey, how you get there is up to each of us as individuals. Looks like you are doing it, Deck..me too. Just "differnt strokes for different folks"..but we can all be proud of our accomplishments! Keep on keepin smoke free, Deck! Good to hear from you! Exactly my point Islandgirl, there is no difference but we have been sold on the idea that quitting is not possible without another product that is making some other nicotine peddlar rich. No matter how you quit you still have to make the effort, but in the minds of the NRT manufacturers " why not make a few bucks from these gullible addicts - they are used to paying for products that not only do them no good but that also do them some harm" Do you know of any company that manufactures products that will actually weanh you from the product they are selling. It's a complete hoax. The more they sell of their products the more money they make, so the longer you are hooked on the products the better it is for them. Sound familiar? We all agreee that smoking has lowered our opinion of ourselves, and I would say that for this reason and for this reason only, we think that we couldn't possibly quit without some help, and lo and behold there are a couple of companies out there just ready to make a killing on us. Those of you in the 50 year-old age bracket and upwards will certainly remember advertisements for cigarettes, candies in the shape of cigarettes, films and television programmes that pushed the idea of cigarette smoking as either sophisticated, macho or otherwise. Yes we were taken in by the whole idea, afterall most of us are smokers from the time of conception, our mothers smoked while pregnant, did so while feeding and changing us and apart from the advice of "smoking will stunt your growth" there was little or not restriction on smoking even as young teenagers. It was what boys/men did. Nowadays thankfully this is no longer the case. Think about it how many of you came across commercial sites for quitting smoking before you happened upon this one? If you had not found this site would you have resorted to a pay site in order to help you in your quit? Does anybody really believe that tobacco manufacturers really do all in their power to repair the damages caused by their product? To your pens My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/6/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,015 Amount Saved: $377.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 0 Mins: 2 Seconds: 55

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Non Smoking and NRT's: My husband and I both quit 2 weeks ago, he went Cold Turkey, I have used some nicotine gum. I can actually say that we have noticed no difference between us, we both are still not smoking (not to say we don't still feel the WANT to part of it)!, but we are not going to~~ ever again! I know we are past the physical cravings part, now on to the mental dependancy of withdrawal. I chew 1-3 pieces of gum a day, and somedays, none. But, if life is stressful,(I am a full time caregiver) I would much rather say that I am going to chew a piece of nicotine gum than "cheat" with a cigarette. And, yes, I do feel like a non SMOKER..I am replacing that nicotine, but I am not inhaling it into my lungs. If this is what it takes me, I will do it. The info on NRT pkg. says 12 weeks of treatment, with gradual cutdown of products, I am sure I will do it in less than that. And, I am not sure why people think the government owes NRTS to us free. Maybe if they would just take all the cigarettes off the market, the problem might just solve itself. Think any big-money lobbists in DC will let that happen?? NO, but I do not agree that every program has to be a free government program. We are big folks, we began smoking on own own, so lets just all put on our big girl panties and deal with our own mistakes! ;) Hang in There and Keep the Quit!!! in some places, hawaii for one, and I believe certain places in canada, NRTs are given out free. Here, patches are given to people without health insurance, and it is funded by the tobacco settlement money.
