anxious1 Thank you for the compliment...No I am not a teacher, I am more of a student than anything else. Yes, the morning anxiety is difficult. I too went through that and eventually got past it...It sounds as if you are finished with that part of the journey. That is a blessing. Stay focused on this, it may well be the most important thing you accomplish with regard to maintaining your health. Lets face it if we lose our physical well being, it tends to put a damper on a whole lot of hopes and ambitions. I know this can be difficult, but you are doing so well. I can see that you are teaching yourself to walk through the urges in good fashion. Never forget that the need for a cigarette is a learned response to our internal way of being. That is why, for some of us, it is necessary to quit from the inside out. Stay well and stay here. This site will give you the support that you need. You will provide the will to make quitting a reality in your life.. nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 408 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,240 Amount Saved: $4,284.00 Life Gained: Days: 76 Hrs: 3 Mins: 49 Seconds: 13

Hi Patrick, Tresa and axioux1. You all have a way of saying things that trigger positive feelings! Great attitudes. I'm going to stick with you! Your name always makes me smile smokerella! I giggle each time I see it. I visualize a smoker magically transforming into a beautiful non-smoker, glass slippers and all! :D You mentioned that you thought the 3 day was the worse. Eeeccckkk! That's tomorrow for me. Hehehe. Susie & Smokerella ... you're both winners and you both have that excellent and necessary attitude that spells out determination and epiphany - you've both seen the light! Now, keep your eyes focussed on the brightness as you go day by day into good health... I wouldn't worry about tomorrow...focus on today. I have been told that it is different for everyone so maybe it will be better, or the same. Congrats on making it through the day.. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,830 Amount Saved: $228.75 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 55 Seconds: 57

Hi Susie and Everyone, Well Susie, we made it through our first day! Way to go!!! You did great! Very proud of you. I am proud I didn't smoke at all. I even went out with my family for a drink for my grandfather's birthday and just to keep me from having a trigger, I didn't have a drink, just a diet coke. It is true I did have more energy yesterday but I find the mornings I am quite tired. This morning the craving for the first smoke was pretty prominent but I made it though, drove to work (another tuff situation) and made it! I am shocked that I've been able to make it through, I haven't had the best track record for quitting and usually convinced myself that drags here and there were fine. I know now that they are not and it's really helped me through. I am finding that my back, right in between my sholder blades, it quite tense but I guess that's just one of my withdrawls. I was told the 3rd day is usually the worst? Is that true?

Nonic, Are you a teacher or something? You are so literate and very full of great information. I too, as you once pointed out to me did not have the difficulty with the physical, it is all emotional, and has gotten better. I used to cry everyday at the drop of a pin, now, I think it has been at least a week, and I think I cried for all of two min for a ligitimate reason...my husband ticked me off, so it wasn't even smoking related. I have woken up every morning having an anxiety attack about battling that morning cigarette crave. NONE OF THAT FOR A FULL WEEK NOW!! It bugs me a little, but I don't need to take the meds to get through it. Even though some days I have a little nag at me all day, by looking at how far I have come, I know that will eventually go too. Thanks for the support Nonic, after being quit so long you don't need to be here, you are just needed. Thanks. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,800 Amount Saved: $225.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 22 Mins: 45 Seconds: 42

Susie Glad to hear you say that. You will really be a better you once you have learned how to get the addiction behind you. I know its not always an easy thing to do, but I promise you that it does get less difficult over time. Eventually we begin to relearn how to deal with ourselves sans cigarettes. Alot of it is behaviour modification. As we encounter circumstances that had previously been smoking situations, we literally teach ourselves how to walk through them without smoking. It does take paractice, at least it did for me. Remember, quitting is not simply the act of not doing something (smoking) it is a remaking of the way we see ourselves and our environment. It is a process by which we teach ourselves not to reach for a smoke ever time we feel vulnerable in some way or another. Slowly over time we begin to realize that we really never needed to smoke in the first place. We simply adopted it as a learned response to the way we are feeling or thinking at any given moment in time. That is just the nature of an addiction, a repeated action that in some way rewards us or protects us. It is an action that grants us a percieved benefit. In the case of cigarettes, it raises the levels of dopamine and other neurotransmitters (sp) that causes us to feel better. The thing to keep in mind is that nicotine has a half life in the body. As its effect diminishes, we are set upon by the anxiety of knowing that we soon must get more if we are to continue to receive that perceived benefit. Until we stop that merri-go-round, we are doomed to repeat the learned behaviour into "infinity and beyond". For me the physical addiction was not the most difficult aspect. I was an "emotive" smoker and a self-medicator. The most difficult thing for me was to literally engage myself in a way that would enable me to deal with those internal struggles without resorting to the thin blue veil. In any case I am glad that you are here. Post often and do not feel timid about discussing what you are going through. People will understand. You are talking to a bunch of addicts who like you have made a decision to stop the cycle. People will help you and you will find that the simple act of posting is very beneficial in itself... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 406 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,180 Amount Saved: $4,263.00 Life Gained: Days: 75 Hrs: 18 Mins: 43 Seconds: 3

Hey smokerella Welcome and get ready for some wonderful people to support you! I have made it thru hell week and heck week and know that without the support I have found here, it would not have happened! Hang in There and remember: If you feel the urge to light one up, pop online, get to this website ASAP and post a note, wait for a few replies before you cave. I have done that over and over and have yet to cheat by lighting one up. We are all in the same boat here, no judgements, just people helping people. Wow! What a concept! ;-) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 252 Amount Saved: $53.55 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 46 Seconds: 34
