Thank you all so much for your words of support and encouragement. I really didn't know what to expect. I salute all of you. Looking at your days quit has given me new found hope that I can too can succeed. I've only been smoke free for a few hours but I'm happy that I can even say that! I'm definitely craving right now but I have my trusty glass of cold water beside me. Your kind words of welcome/wisdom have triggered a few tears - I'm not alone anymore because you're all here with me! Bless you all! I'm not going to smoke one minute at a time. :)

Well Susie, as you can see, a lot of us have taken this step after 30+ years. I myself was 35 years as well. I decided to quit, not because of health reasons, but I was tired of spending all that money to kill myself. You are at the right place, and you'll hear it over and over again that you need to take small victories and reward yourself. 15 min., 1/2 hour, and hours..they add up to days and months without smoke. You can do this, and we're all here to help. So welcome to the SSC, and please...before you smoke...post. Suzie!! What is it about 36 years of smoking then quitting? I, too, had smoked 36 years..and as of 14 days ago, I am now smoke free! I have not "cheated", I have pretty much gone cold turkey, and I am still here, still sane. (a bit fuller from all the munching I have done in two weeks, but I am tackling that next)! You can do it! Always remember that there are lots of us here and I know for a fact that I could not have made it these past 2 weeks without the support I found here. Hang Tough, you can do it!! Susie, You can do this and we can help you. I smoked 35 years so I know where you are coming from. One crave at a time that is all we can do and with each passing one comes a sense of accomplishment. Susie I was always afraid of failure and used this as an excuse not to quit - why should I when I was only going to fail. This time was different - I planned to quit for several months with the exact date in mind. And the biggest is that I found this site. Whenever I crave one, have withdrawals, or just need a boost I come here. It has helped so so much. I printed out the list of Junkie Thinking and have it right in front of me to refer to. I also have pints of blueberries to snack on when in front of the computer. Come here often and you'll do fine. Susie, Welcome aboard! We are all here for you. I too smoked for 36 years and I never thought I could do this. It get's easier with each passing week. Yes, there will be some rough patches, but you will feel so much stronger with each one that you get through. Hang in there, and drink alot of water to wash that nicotine out of your system and to get through the cravings. Just don't look back! You can do this! This is the best thing that you can do for yourself. Keep us posted. Mimi :)
